2. Glad you are going to make it
We seldom get to the Jazzfest but we always make the French Quarter Fest which is a mini version. No big name (out of town) entertainment but lots of local jazz and great food all throughout the quarter. Lots of dancing in the streets and the food is incredible. It happens in mid April right before Jazzfest. Kind of a Jazzfest for locals.

Then there is Satchmofest in August. Oh My!

3. It's not guaranteed we'll actually do the fest. If the schedule fits together right, we may hit
the fairgrounds. Otherwise, we're still going for music. Rock N Bowl will have Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers on the 28th and Sonny Landreth on the 29th--we'll be there both nights. I don't miss Sonny when he's in town.

We're also hoping to take in some of the Festival International de Louisiane in Lafayette. They should be releasing their grids soon. Oh yes, and I think Festival International is still free!

4. Have you ever caught Kermit Ruffins
at Vaughan's in the Bywater on Thursday Nights? Incredibly homy, trashy little bar in a neighborhood and every thursday night, Kermit rocks the night away. They make a mean cheeseburger too. Corner of Lesseps and Dauphine.

5. We saw him during last year's Jazzfest down at Vaughan's. Oh my, it was so packed and hot. We had
to go outside between sets just so we wouldn't melt! It was a fabulous show and worth all the sweat. We just saw him in December at Ray's Boom Boom Room on Frenchman and it was a great show, as well. Corey Henry wasn't there though. (I love him on trombone.)

Kermit has a new CD coming out in February. It was recorded back in September at Vaughan's. *I can't wait* Kermit told me it is great (then again it's not like he'd say it's bad!).

6. Not really much in the way of "jazz" though
Maybe they need to think about changing the name. Or really there is so much more than just jazz that maybe it needs a new name.

7. Yeah, that's been the rub for many years
the locals provide a whole bunch of Jazz and Zydeco and Cajun and Gospel Music but the organizers bring in the big names to attract out of town tourists. We prefer the smaller, more localized French Quarter Fest which occurs in mid April before Jazz Fest. All local talent, great food and not the logistics headaches or costs of the Jazzfest.

10. As one might suspect
the Fest has become more commercial in nature as the year's have gone by driven by economic necessity. However, if you desire to hear real, live, Nawlins Jazz, then come early. The food is incredible regardless of the music playing. The out of town names usually don't play until late in the day/evening.

9. FUCK YEAH! VAN THE MAN AND THE 'DAN!
:woohoo:

Rod Stewart can go fucking himself with a crab-riddled tube, as can Ludacris and ZZ Top, but the others look all right.

:P

12. I'm really sorry to say this, but I'm totally unimpressed...
The 2006 lineup included:

Bob Dylan
Bruce Springsteen
Juvenile
Allen Toussaint & Elvis Costello
Jimmy Buffett
Keith Urban
Paul Simon
The Meters
Etta James
Herbie Hancock

and previous years were more like 2006 than 2007.
