If you made a soundtrack for "An Inconvenient Truth"...
...what songs would you include?

Here are mine, so far (not necessarily in this order - I'm still working on that) :

Billy Joel: No Man's Land
Cerrone: Supernature
Chris Rea: The Road to Hell
Crosby & Nash: Don't Dig Here
Eagles: The Last Resort
Sting: Fragile

Others?

2. NIN - The Great Below
Edited on Wed Jan-24-07 08:22 PM by Little Wing
especially during scenes of heavy industry and waves hitting a beach, which would be quite obvious

lyrics -

Staring at the sea
Will she come?
Is there hope for me
After all is said and done
Anything at any price
All of this for you
All the spoils of a wasted life
All of this for you
All the world has closed her eyes
Tired faith all worn and thin
For all we could have done
And all that could have been

Ocean pulls me close
And whispers in my ear
The destiny Ive chose
All becoming clear
The currents have their say
The time is drawing near
Washes me away
Makes me disappear

I descend from grace
In arms of underflow
I will take my place
In the great below

I can still feel you
Even so far away

6. Oooh...
...I don't know that one, will have to look for it. Reminds me of another NIN song that might work, though: "Head Like a Hole" - which I always thought of as the theme song of the B*sh administration.

It is pretty somber, but appropriate. Thanks! :)

I'd add a few songs by Modest Mouse and Radiohead to that. :D

On edit: Tool and APC have some appropriate stuff too. :D :D

I'm thinking also that "Blue" by APC on "Thirteenth Step" might work. Bits of it, at least.

Just goes to show my enthusiasm about humanity

edit - to add "Blue" lyrics

I didn't want to know
I just didn't want to know
Best to keep things in the shallow end
Cause I never quite learned how to swim

I just didn't want to know
Didn't want, didn't want,
Didn't want, didn't want

Close my eyes just to look at you
Taken by the seamless vision
I close my eyes,
Ignore the smoke,
Ignore the smoke,
Ignore the smoke

Call an optimist, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call an optimist, she's turning blue
While I just sit and stare at you

Because I don't want to know
I didn't want to know
I just didn't want to know
I just didn't want

Mistook their nods for an approval
Just ignore the smoke and smile

Call an optimist, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call an optimist, she's turning blue
Such a perfect color for your eyes
Call an optimist, she's turning blue
Such a lovely color for you
Call an optimist, she's turning blue
While I just sit and stare at you

I don't want to know

16. 'Share the Land' or 'Hand Me Down World' by the Guess Who
Not my favourite band, but they're hometown boys and their hearts were in the right place. They played 'Hand Me Down World' at the White House because Tricia Nixon was a big fan, and they felt like they were putting one over old Tricky Dick because it was (they thought) such a subversive song.

22. paradise by john prine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT8Whx6rTLM

When I was a child my family would travel
Down to Western Kentucky where my parents were born

And theres a backwards old town thats often remembered
So many times that my memories are worn
And Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenburg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well I'm sorry my son but your too late in asking
Mr Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well sometimes we'd travel right down the green river

To the abandoned old prison down by Adrie Hill
Where the air smelt like snakes that we'd shoot with our pistols
But empty pop bottles was all we would kill
Then the coal company came with the worlds largest shovel
And they tortured the timbers and stripped all the land
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man

When I die, let my ashes float down the Green River

Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam

I'll be halfway to heaven with paradise waiting

Just five miles away from wherever I am
