19. It is a kind of music that I like
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwassa_kwassa

Kwassa kwassa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kwassa kwassa (or kwasa kwasa) refers to a dance rhythm from Congo (DRC), where the hips move back and forth while the hands move to follow the hips – that was very popular in Africa in the late 1980s. The words "kwassa kwassa" may have come from the French quoi ça? (what's that?). The dance was created by Pepe Kalle, and popularized by his soukous music videos, as well as the videos of Kanda Bongo Man and other Congolese musicians.

Later, in other parts of Africa, the dance became a synonym for soukous music, which is still often referred to as Kwassa Kwassa.

I was and still am very outspoken about this horror to humanity. It has made me feel like a chicken little in that I will speak out often on this topic. It is my deep hope that I have prevented a few youngsters from joining the military and getting a dose of DU-Oxide poisoning over in the "war" zones. It is also my deepest hopes that my voice added to a great many others here in the Democratic Underground has contributed to spreading the data about this monstrosity. DON'T let your son's or daughters or ANYONE you know enter into military service without first showering them with the data...it is right here in the Democratic Underground for you to research and pass along....

154. My son used tohave night terrors. They were horrible.
They usually only happened if he was woken up by someone or something. If he woke up naturally by himself, there was no problem. I think he was about 5 by the time he outgrew them. I never want to have to see another child experience that.

Good luck with Carter.

102. "Love is Strange" is a cool song and unusual for its time....
I'm not a huge Doo-Wop fan, but there are some gems in that genre.

I'm always on the look-out for "lesser known" Rockabilly. Billy Lee Riley: "Red Hot," and "Flying Saucer Rock and Roll are a couple of my favorites.

You might enjoy this video I just came across:

108. Thanks!
I enjoyed that video very much. I must confess I have never heard that song before, and Johnny Burnette is also a new name for me. But I like rockabilly a lot. Love that twangy guitar and the quick bass-driven beat.

I'm betting you are a Roy Orbison fan as well. Have you seen the youtube videos from "Black And White"?

So, are you a zoo keeper? If not, where does your name come from? :hi:

160. You're welcome, Speedoo...
I have seen that Black and White video and I do like Roy Orbison. He is one of the best! My DH is a huge fan of his. Being a bit hyper, I'm always drawn more to dance beats of just about every kind, old and new.

Here's a funny little video you might like as well:

As far as my username...it described my household when I chose it. And it's still a pretty good description of my life.

150. I was still a 'true believer' didn't want to use my real E-mail
I chose 'alittlelark' because I thought researching the info that family and friends had given me that was , uh, different from my world view - and I did not want the searches to be traced back to my 'good ' username.

I don't use that 'good' username anymore.

151. My abbreviated swimming stroke earned me the nickname "The Duck".
That was when I was on the high school swim team.

The "no2" is quite droll though. My initial choice was "Theduck" but evidently that was already taken, so I settled for being second (number 2).

I don't spend a lot of time here in the Lounge, but here's a big hi to all the DU Loungers. :hi:

163. It's from an Edgar Allen Poe story, "The Domain of Arnheim"
I love the story. It's one of the few uplifting stories that he wrote. Also, I am in IT so the "domain" represents that. I shortened it to just "arnheim."

Oh, the story, if you are looking for it, is sometimes published as "The Landscaper's Garden."

169.  I'm a sailplane pilot
and here in East Texas we're not blessed with mountains that produce ridge and wave lift. Nice, puffy cumulus clouds are our indicator of lift, and that's where you'll find me most weekends, riding the lift to cloudbase altitude.
