In Western NY it's the coldest temps all winter. Had to put a heater in my garden pond to keep my pet fishies from freezing. :scared:

2. No snow, right now, just cold.
We do have about 8" on the ground and that makes the snowmobilers happy. The ice is starting to freeze on the lakes and that will make the ice fishing peop's happy.

6. Winter has finally arrived....a couple months late, but it's here.
I don't like the cold, and the snow getting dragged into the house every time I walk through the door, but this is more normal. 55 degrees in January was scaring me.

My husband wants to take the kids to an Ice Festival today. What kind of masochism is this?

11. Thank You! And, yes, the Plymouth Ice Festival
It's cool (or cold--however you want to look at it). But I've been some many times and there are only so many things you can carve out of ice. The kids have been several times and one son is getting over the flu right now. The way he's hacking I just don't think it's the most responsible thing to do. I suggested we make it an optional excursion and my husband can take whichever of the four kids want to go. Then I can stay home with the one(s) that don't want to go. I know my 13 year old girl will not want to go, so I should be able to get out of it. ;)

If you've never been, it really is fun the first time you go. This year should be good because it's so cold that everything that's been carved all weekend will still be intact. I don't know how far west of AA you are, it is really impressive the first time you go. The best time to go is when it has been really cold then the weather breaks and it warms up into the low 40s. Then the sculptures melt just enough to get really shiny, but don't fall apart.

15. I like your idea of staying home with those that don't want to go.
I don't think we'll make it this year either. I've got a sinus infection thing going on and staying warm in the house is very appealing to me right now. I'm very close to Spring Arbor. I drive to AA to work daily, it takes me about 40 minutes (Zeeb Rd).

Perhaps some day we'll meet. I've had the pleasure of having dinner/coffee with a few folks from here. It's a great forum. I also have a forum of my own if you're interested take a peek at the link on my sig line.

nice to meetcha :)

16. My daughter just came in complaining about this "ice thing".
Yeah! I knew she'd get me out of it. She also has a legitimate reason, too (other than just being 13 and all that goes with that!). She has a Science Olympiad practice this afternoon. :woohoo:

I know Spring Arbor -- we take 60 on our way to Indiana for a break from the interstate. We like your A & W. :applause:

Even more coincidental, my company's Ann Arbor office is at the Zeeb Road exit, too. I'll definitely take a look at your forum when I get a chance. Thanks for the invite.

We'll see what happens, I may still be able to wiggle out of it. Let the maneuvering begin!

14. 24 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The wind chill is 18. It's snowing like hell--we already have a couple of inches on the ground, and it's supposed to turn into freezing rain later, so I don't think we'll be going anywhere today.
