With all the missing people in the news, I wonder if adults "go missing" and no one notices.

7. Some days, someone would notice right away.
Others, it might be four or five days before anyone knew.

All depends on if anyone's expecting to hear from me, and there are full weeks when I won't need to talk to someone.

I think people would notice within a day, but it might not seem out of the ordinary to them for a few past that.

12. Three days of work absences
After three days of unexplained absences, it is considered job abandonment but my boss would certainly check up on me. Other than that no one would notice. No friends, no family nearby. My family does not call me; I have to call them.

35. Yes, quite a bit
I am not social at all so I don't even know my current neighbors. Well I don't know their names anyway.
Which is why I said in another thread that when I get too old or sick to work, I am going to go play in traffic so I don't have to worry about it. No long retirement for me.

Mom's in poor health. So my sister or mother probably would notice in a day or two.

Other than that, no one would notice, certainly not until bills didn't get paid for awhile.

I guess my dog would notice almost immediately.

31. My youngest son would notice within hours and possibly minutes.
He "checks in" on me all day and usually once or twice during the night. (He's seven). If he somehow failed to notice my disappearance, my daughter would call for a ride to/from somewhere and when I didn't respond, she'd launch a neighborhood search.

48. A long time. Maybe up to 2 weeks and then some.
When I do the administration of my sister's finances, every two weeks to pay certain bills through an assistant. She would notice.

My dogs would be really hungry and thirsty, and they would be howling at night but I live in a rural setting and I know they could go for 2 weeks without the basic necessities. They would be upset and skinny but alive. Neighbors might notice then.

Other than that, my job would think I was AWOL, my co-workers I don't see for months at a time and some of my closer co-workers would probably wonder after two weeks.

77. If it was today, by about 8:15am. I have to be at work at
8:00am and if I don't show up, they'll start calling the house. (Note to boss: No, I will not work late today so don't ask me like you did yesterday.)

Obviously, my bosses and co-workers would notice first. Then they would contact me, no contact at home, and then they would call my emergency contacts. At least that's what I imagine would happen.

82. Not long. Mama WIMR would notice straight off when she had no one to yell at.

84. Until my husband or kids need to know where something is.
I'm not talking obscure things. I mean common, everyday items or (even worse) their own personal items. "Where's my cell phone?" "Where are my keys?" "Where is the dog?" Apparently the uterus is some sort of tracking device. Either that or they think I'm omnipotent.

There is always someone or some animal looking for me, yelling for me, or whining for me about every second of the day.

Hey it's lonely when you're not around. The Lounge isn't nearly as much fun. I look forward to your posts -- even when you're having a tough day. It helps when I'm having a tough time to know I'm not alone. Besides, that's what we're all here for -- to help each other. :-)

104. Sweet 's what I'm good at apparently
I swear, if I hear one more time about "what a nice guy" I am or "how special" I am, I may explode. I am what I am, little good it's ever done me. It's hard to draw much comfort from the bon mots when life keeps crapping in the corn flakes.

Rant over, thanks for the compliment. (Just me being nice.) :-)

107. Sorry if I was a bit touchy there
It's just a sore subject for me lately.

On the upside, I got a good review from my outgoing boss this week. Now it's just a matter of seeing whether the Sr. VP allows my grade to stand -- things have to fit a bell curve. Oy! To celebrate my good review, I went out and played Bingo with the old folks on Friday night and came away with two substantial wins ($$$). It's neat because they were all excited for me. The old ladies look forward to me coming by on the odd Friday -- I'm just about the only male under 70 in the place (by 25 years). It's one heck of a way to get noticed. So after Friday, maybe the ladies at Immaculate Conception Bingo would miss me if I fell off the face of the earth. :-)

106. two days
on a weekend, if I had nothing planned ahead of time. eventually someone would notice I wasn't responding to texts and get concerned. on a weekday? less than a day. If i didn't show up places and didn't check in, or respond to inquiries, it wouldn't be long.

108. It happens all the time.
and if it's a working woman, the cops don't even bother to investigate. They just hate having to scoop up any remains they find. I don't think anyone would notice if I went missing or care, to be honest. My family would, but the news media wouldn't put my picture up. I'm not blond haired and blue eyed, therefore, my disappearance would not be news.

109. I actually did fall off the face of the earth once
And it took forever for anyone to notice. I was clinging to a bit of Brazil when I finally got the attention of a passing nomad who threw me a vine. It was a close thing.

Just goes to show you, watch where you're going.

112. Well....
the kind of mood I'm in right now this is a question I shouldn't answer. One of those blah days.

My mother would try to call me, and she wouldn't get an answer. If I hadn't gotten back to her at least a week after that, she'd start to wonder. I'm not really working and most of the people I know are folks that I see maybe once a week. If they hadn't seen me for a couple of weeks I doubt they'd wonder.

Suffice it to say if I dropped off the face of the earth right now it would probably take anywhere from two to three weeks for anyone to notice. That assumes that it's the beginning of the month and I have my rent paid.
