What are you listening to tonight?
American Idol auditions. That first woman and the last guy are why some of these auditions are hard to watch/listen to.

These are the CDs I last listened to:

Nerina Pallot - Fires
The Long Blondes - Someone To Drive You Home
Alexz Johnson - Songs From Instant Star 2
Tilly And The Wall - Bottoms Of Barrels
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Candice - It's Always The Innocent Ones
Ellery - Lying Awake

All highly recommended!

1. Okay fine....
I have the FX premiere of "Thirteen Going On Thirty" playing above my head. Whatever, some decent 80s music.

6. It's beautiful, isn't it?
Some songs, like "Rainbows In The Dark," sound like lost classics.

10. BTW

I'll be listening to the albums I got during the holidays for a while. I got about 25 CDs to close out the year. Only one disappointed me: the new Emily Haines. Taken in small doses, her CD is pleasantly sophisticated. But it gets numbing because of the lack of variety.

I forgot that I heard a live stream of the upcoming CD from the Postmarks (it's self-titled and excellent despite the mellow sound throughout.)

12. The album would be worth having for "Rainbows In The Dark" alone.
And there's plenty more to like.

The piano intro to the bouncy "Urgency."

The simple, but elegant "Lost Girls" and "Love Song."

The utterly uplifting "Sing Songs Along"

And oh man, "The Freest Man." I usually don't go for the electronic tinged stuff, but that's a great song!

It really is a rather inspirational record. I feel great when I hear it.

One of the best indie pop offerings of the year. For sure.

Not quite in my top 20, but in hindsight, perhaps it should have been in.

19. I am loving "Return to Cookie Mountain"
and have been playing it to death. (Along with The Fall, "Heads Roll," and Eagles of Death Metal.)

At the moment, though, I'm enjoying some rare quiet time.

So is Making Teenage Faces.

It's a shame how few people realize what a terrible loss for music that was. They would have been HUGE.

35. Rock, punkish, 70s.
Here's my favorite Stranglers song:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranglers

This far from my normal listening material, but I just watched "Sexy Beast," and fell in love with The Stranglers' "Peaches" on the soundtrack. "Peaches" plays behind a scene in which a "reformed" British thief, retired to a villa in sunny Spain, is sunning himself poolside and very nearly gets crushed by a boulder that lands in his swimming pool.
