Ebay Sellers, have you recently received this message-
through the "my ebay" message center from an established Ebayer asking about an item that you're selling?

------------------
Hello, My name is D*** P***. (name edited out)

I am interested in your item. The problem is that I am a very confused as ebay say your suspended and I cannot place bid Please, have a look:
81.248.47.19/mambo/cache/e2pUserId=siteid=0pageType=pa1=i1=bshowgif=UsingSSL=
ru=pp=pa2=errmsg=runame=ruparams=ruproduct=sid=favoritenav=migrateVisitor=/eBaySAPI/dll/index.php

------------------

This was received from an established bidder interested in a Banana Republic skirt that I'm selling. I only sell women's clothes. I looked up the member's history and he strictly deals in selling cars and buying car parts. He doesn't have a feedback history that shows that he's ripping anyone off.

I went to live help to see if my account was suspended for some reason but they're closed. (my account's paid up and my listings are still active.)

I usually receive Ebay spoof emails through my personal email account or unwanted solicitations through the ebay message center from people with a 0 feedback rating. As with this message, I didn't click on the link.

I'll contact Ebay again tomorrow, but if someone has an answer for me now, I'll sleep a little easier tonight.

Thanks

1. It's a fake, and I can prove it
Forward the entire message to this e-mail address:

spoof@paypal.com

PayPal handles fradulent e-mails for both itself and eBay now, so expect a response from PayPal shortly confirming that it is a fake.

If in fact it ISN'T a fake, good luck getting your account sorted out.

My sister just told me that maybe someone has stolen his account and is using it to phish for more Ebay accounts. I've never been in trouble with Ebay and treat my account like gold. It's my only source of income. Just the mention of suspension sends chills up my spine.

2. That definitely sounds like a spoof.
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 12:07 AM by GenDem
I get them at least a couple times a month. I used to copy and paste them and send them in to ebays's safe harbor. I don't even bother, now. I just delete. If they try to link you to a site that asks for your account information...you know it's a spoof. Ebay will NEVER ask for that in an email.

3. I love the spoofs that just directly for my info, don't even copy and eBay logo.
How stupid do they think people are? At least give me a logo. Looks spoof.

5. Always look at the URL... if it doesn't point to an
https:// ..... address, it's a spoof. The *s* at the end stands for secure. Plus the .php at the end of the addy .. Ebay is built on the Sun Microsystems Java Platform.

It's a phishing attempt, and someone else's account, if it came from a legitimate member, has been spoofed or hacked. This lameass didn't even hide his I.P. number at the beginning of his URL... these are the ones I find fun to play with.... before I turn them in to security at Ebay and PayPal.

Come kimosabe, we go play withum port scanners and "other" toys... have BIG fun!

11. I got an email last week
From a guy asking if I can ship to Scotland... Well, considering that I'm selling a domain name, that shouldn't be a problem. I won't even charge for extra packaging.

It had a phishing link, of course.
