Poll question: Who doesn't have to work on Monday?
My office will be closed on Monday. Damn, liberal non-profit and such. But my husband has to work. He works in retail. So what about you, my fellow DU friends?

We're getting hit with the storm. There are winter storm warnings posted... probably a strong possibility of a snow day, anyway.

23. Yes, it is closed anyway for MLK Day
but my thought process can be convoluted. We are expecting a storm....and "if" it was a regular old Monday (not MLK Day)....we may have gotten a snow day. So, I'm thinking that the storm is ripping me off because it came when I have the day off anyway. Not that I don't like being in the classroom, but snow days are always these little mini surprise vacation days.

They are mini surprise vacation days for the students as well. You always feel robbed when it massively snows on a pre-determined holiday.

28. I don't have to work, but I am working.
The US stock market is closed tomorrow, so we have the day off, but I am going into work because, as Sister Souljah might put it, I experience psychological discomfort at the thought of celebrating the birthday of a black man who tried to teach white people the meaning of civilization.

No, really, I just have to do some shit on the network that I can't do when anybody else is working.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. day, everyone.

Here's my Martin Luther King, Jr. story: When I was in first grade in 1967 in Black Earth, Wisconsin, my teacher Mr. Foss asked who in the class knew who Martin Luther King, Jr. was. Nobody raised their hand, so Mrs. Foss instructed us all to go home and ask our parents who Martin Luther King, Jr. was.

I, being good compliant adoring student of Mrs. Foss, went home and asked my mom who Martin Luther King, Jr. was. Mom, who was making dinner and doing something at the sink answered, "Oh, he's a riot starter."

So when Mrs. Foss asked the next day who Martin Luther King, Jr. was, my hand shot up first . . .

51. i don't have a job
I am unemployed and have been unemployed for a long time (Since the clinton years) due to the destruction of the educated middle class. I have renamed my unemployment "real early retirement".

I'm gonna stay home and practice the piano, work on my chops!! They're rusty!! Learn some new music.
Besides here it's cold and rainy and not frozen yet, but it will be before long.

Good sleeping weather!!
