Good driving music?
I need to download some stuff for my out-of-town trip this weekend. I can't think of much. Any good ideas (not including new country)?

2. Delbert McClinton - Live from Austin
Horn-driven Texas blues at its finest. Sadly, his studio stuff isn't nearly as good as his live performances.

71. And he's a great guy!! He did a benefit concert for a non-profit I worked for once
He put his heart and soul into it--as with any of his concerts--but gave all the profit to this restorative justice juvenile mediation program. Really a great thing to do. And a great concert.

A great musician and a great human being!

16. Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf
Words and music by Mars Bonfire

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

19. Depends on the scenery
For mountains: Moody Blues In Search of the Lost Chord is outstanding.

Rolling scenery, occasionally with dramatic points like hills: the Grateful Dead extended jams are nice

Flat scenery: Something with some energy. Jimi Hendrix, maybe.

37. Radar Love
I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear
When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable comin' in from above
Don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a wave in the air, Radar Love
The radio is playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
The road has got me hypnotized
And I'm speedin' into a new sunrise
When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky
(Instrumental break)
No more speed, I'm almost there
Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care
Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow
And the radio played that forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
And the newsman sang his same song
Oh one more radar lover gone
When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

Theme for Great Cities by Simple Minds (best at night)
Urban Clearway by Saint Etienne

53. "Trace" Son Volt
I was actually on the road when this came out and being a huge Uncle Tupelo fan I snapped it up:

http://www.gumbopages.com/music/son-volt/text/trace-rev-rft.html

It rolls like a river, and "Windfall" is one of the greatest "roadtrip" songs ever written:

Now and then it keeps you runnin'
Never seems to die
Trails spin with fear
And not enough livin' on the outside
Never seem to get far enough
Stayin' inbetween the lines
Hold on to what you can
Waitin' for the end
Not knowin' when

May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor
Two hands on the wheel
May the wind take your troubles away

Tryin' to make it far enough
To the next time zone
Few and far between past the midnight hour
You never feel alone
You're really not alone

Switchin' it over to am
Searchin' for a truer sound
Can't recall the call letters
Steel guitar and settle down

Catchin' an all night station
Somewhere in louisiana
It sounds like 1963
But for now it sounds like heaven

May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor
Two hands on the wheel
May the wind take your troubles away...

The Who, "Baba O'Riley"
Sheryl Crow, "Real Gone", "Soak Up the Sun", "Steve McQueen"
Rascall Flatts, "Life Is a Highway" (if not too country-ish for you)
Tom Petty, "Learning to Fly"
Led Zeppelin, "Immigrant Song"
Halo 2 soundtrack, "Heretic, Hero"
Roxette, "Joyride", "Fading Like a Flower"
Frou Frou, "Holding Out for a Hero" (love the rhythm)
Kenny Loggins, "Danger Zone"
Shakira, "Suerte", "Ciega, Sordomuda"
Steppenwolf, "Magic Carpet Ride"
Survivor, "Eye of the Tiger"
Enya, "Orinoco Flow"
Fine Young Cannibals, "She Drives Me Crazy"

Some of those are a bit oldish, but I like the way they make the road go by.

76. I like Crash Test Dummies "God Shuffled His Feet"
I have anxiety disorders so driving can be scary at times. I found that this album provided a good balance for me in mood and allowing me to concentrate on the road enough but being distracted enough from my anxiety.

80. Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen...
...Stark, darkly intimate tales that comprise a great set of stories ideal for riding alone in the car.
