Dammit. My furnace is broken.
It won't ignite. The display shows an error code which I looked up in the manual; it says "check flue."

I wish I could help you, billy. I am NOT skilled in stuff like this.

Hopefully, some knowledgeable person here will help you out.

8. I reckon the only person who can help me, terrya
is a plumber who can get to me. I can make it through the night - I only need a bucket to bathe with, and I can use my kettle to fill that with warm water. But - damn! - it's going to be cold in the morning.

7. Shit
did you check the flue?

Maybe it is clogged with something and it won't ignite because it doesn't want to cause you carbon monoxide poisoning.

Birds? Nests?

Maybe something climbed in there.

I don't know Billy.
Is it cold.

11. I'm sure it has a good reason
I'd certainly rather be cold than poisoned.

I'd just rather still be warm. (It is still warm, for the moment. But I know this will change).

13. when
is the last time you had it cleaned? If there is any build up of soot or debris in the flue it will prevent it from starting.

17. I just had a look outside with a torch
There is no visible blockage in the flue. It must be failing to ignite for some other reason.

25. The flue's probably fine ...
... I'd bet a "bottled" beer that it's a sensor in the electronic system.

Unfortunately, that would not be less expensive.

28. That's what I reckon too
or a bad earth stopping the igniter from sparking, or something.

It had been behaving strangely lately, it's true. Maybe the electronics are going senile.

30. Hmmm, maybe a reset?
Pull the fuse or turn off the circuit breaker to the furnace, then turn it back on?

Sort of like a "reboot".

Fortunately, it is very mild here tonight. It feels like maybe eight celcius outside, maybe even ten. That will help. At least it should not be freezing in here in the morning.

I know how I will manage. It is when I can get a plumber round is the question.

It's a combi boiler, no hot water tank - it just heats the water on demand.

42. Induced draft blower
Did any blowers (fans) power on when you rebooted ? If the blower doesn't run, a furnace will not ignite. This is to ensure positive air flow in the flue. Usually, there is a blower in the flue line (induced draft) right above the furnace . If the blower is in the front of the furnace it is called forced draft. Either way, it won't run without it. There is also a censor in the flue line that may be the problem.

If i was cold, I'd check all the connections to the blower and censor, and reboot the unit again, if I was really cold.

43. If the blower hums, but doesn't spin
hmm, I'm not sure that was worded right, but ...

with that symptom, I'd pull the blower out and check for something blocking the blades. Lika a squirrel. Always nice to pull a petrified beastie out of the machine.

(Is it fixed yet? and, did you get that car yet?)
