3. Basically, people argued that you shouldn't eat at Olive Garden
if you had amazing individually-owned restaurants on every corner - as you do in Boston, NY, Philadelphia, Chicago, SanFran, Seattle, etc.

People agreed that if you don't have something great available - if your in the burbs or the boondocks, it's not awful, but they just couldn't believe anyone would go to NYC and eat at Olive Garden.

But I have to kind of crack a smile when I drive past an Olive Garden, or push the grocery cart past the Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

6. Well that was the gray version
There were those who were far more black and white:

"all chain restaurants are evil"
"if you can't eat at an authentic trattoria, don't eat at all"

versus

"How can you say anything bad about Olive Garden - the one in East Podunk is the best restaurant in town!!"
"I LOVE Olive Garden! Free breadsticks for all!""

It got ugly. Not as ugly as breastfeeding debate, but ugly

17. Cliff notes version.
That particular flame war was WAY too LARGE for the Cliff Notes Version.

Basically, two former DUers pissed and moaned when anyone posted anything about the Kirstie Alley show Fat Actress. They weren't particularly svelte and felt that the show was inappropriate and anyone who ever posted anything got the shit kicked out of them by those two.

We ate at an Olive Garden with Patiod in Seattle right next door to a darling little trattoria that was virtually EMPTY...

I'm KIDDING! :woohoo:

21. The real story.
Somebody was headed to New York and asked for restaurant recommendations. Radio_Lady, bless her heart, recommended Olive Garden. Some of us had a laugh about that.

I quipped that recommending Olive Garden on a trip to New York is like going to McDonalds on a trip to Paris.

Utter ridiculousness ensued.
