going back to school to finish my dissertation. wish me luck
In a way this is due to W. My dissertation is on the play Lysistrata by Aristophanes--where the women withhold sex til the men stop the war. It is really an anti-war play. I started it 6 years ago but life intervened. The Iraq war reignited my interest in the subject, so you all will have to call me Dr. Democrat in Tallahassee thanks to George W (I hope).
Am I crazy to do this? (I'll be 50 in 21 days.)

2. No, you are in no way crazy!
You are brave and wonderful to do this! BTW, happy birthday (in 21 days ...).

Good luck to you and I know you can do it. Just think, if you live to be 90, you'll be Dr. Democrat for many years to come. You go, girl :toast: !

4. Good luck and have fun
That's the only way to get through life in general and school in particular.

I may get to where you are someday (I'm 38 and doing my Master's.).

7. Yes -- Do it NOW!
A former classmate of mine got her M.A. in English last year at age SEVENTY-SIX! She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Humanities.

8. The last place I worked before now was a medical college,
and we had a woman apply who was 48 at the time. The admissions committee interviewing her, a fairly traditional bunch, asked her, "You realize, of course, that by the time you finish med school and are a physician you'll be 52 years old." She merrily replied, "I was planning on being 52 years old in 4 years' time anyway." They admitted her. She did very well, and is now happily practicing family medicine.
