Well, there goes the fall-back job.
McDonald’s tests high-tech grill

Fast-food chain tests automated burger-flipping device

CHICAGO, Aug. 1 — High-tech jobs may be moving overseas but one low-tech job Americans could always fall back on was flipping burgers at McDonald’s.
THAT COULD CHANGE in the not-too-distant future. Later this year, a Chicago-area McDonald’s restaurant will fry up hamburgers with an automated grill that dispenses patties directly onto the griddle from a separate freezer compartment, reducing labor and promising fresher sandwiches.

Another safety net gone.

1. Liberal Arts Majors Everywhere Panic
Just thinking of the old joke:

The Philosopher asks: "Why is that so?"

The scientist asks: "How does that work?"

The engineer asks: "What can I do to make that work for mankind?"

The liberal arts major asks: "You want fries with that?"

3. From a personal perspective, this is another corporate atrocity
So, clowny Ronald McDonald wants to stick knives in the backs of teenagers and people who can't get work elsewhere? If this works out for Mickey-D's, this could do a lot of bad. On the other hand, people in return must boycott the bastards...

Also consider, teens buy the music and the other things from the money they make at these places they work for. Our economy WILL BE HURT IF McBASTARD DOES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't even get a 2nd job at Wal-mart, Petsmart, B Dalton, Waldenbooks, Software Etc (ala Electronics Boutique), Target (of all places), and on and on and on because of those bullshit psychological tests. I am no crook, I know how to count (which is mostly pointless since the blasted till does the work anyway :eyes: ), and I don't care nor is it my business to see what co-workers are doing, I am not their policeman presiding over co-workers who should be treated with some respect... So WTF is going on?! Are they scoping out liberals and preventing them from working in order to keep our numbers down? :scared: Paranoid but possible. What if all of corporate america was like this? They would be condemning me to death.

Corporate america will not give people chances anymore, yet alone good jobs, and then wonder why crime is so high. :eyes: That's how the people need to respond to Bush, if he and his corporate buddies are going to put their personal wealth above the well being of this country as a whole.

Now It's actually rather depraved that I would even think yet alone suggest such a response, but waving little picket signs and flags and shouting "bloody murder" clearly does zilch anymore.

5. But without the ability to make the money to consume, what's the point?
Again, the idea we're a supply-side economy is sheer haphazrd bollocks.

We are a demand side. Upset the demand and the system will crumble. Corporate america has led itself to believe, with repuke assistance, that it is a supply-side economy where the demand just needs to exist and nothing more.

I'd almost cheer for the destruction of corporate america given their vile actions except too many lives would be hurt badly. Corporate america, if regulated and controlled, would be a better solution. I can still dream about the ideal solution (socialism for all with the option to do more which in turn eliminates poverty and dramatically reduces crime.)
