I've got to escape politics for a while. So how about a little movie trivia?
Looking up the answers on Google or elsewhere is not allowed, so we're on the honor system.

Name two movies written by John Steinbeck and directed by Elia Kazan. The male leads in both films were nominated for academy awards. Did they win for these films?

And for a bonus question, who's rumored to be thinking of remaking and starring in one of them?

Reminder: If you Google these answers, you are disqualified from a two-week, all-expense-paid, trip to Baghdad.

1. Would one be:

"The Grapes of Wrath"?

Henry Fonda did NOT win. If that's the correct answer.

5. Ok.
You're right.

It's so tempting to go to IMDB with these questions. But as you can see, I didn't.

7. Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and Men but it was directed by Louis Milestone.
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 01:54 PM by Cyrano
It starred Burgess Merideth and Lon Cheney Jr.

(edited to correct the incorrect, unforgiveable, stupid, answer with which I replied to this question.)

two scripts based on Ian Flemming novels. Which ones?

Am I right? I'm pretty sure Dahl wrote the screenplay for at least one Bond film.

I read about Brad Pitt wanting to remake "East of Eden." (Don't ask me where. I think it was a magazine in a dentists office.)

28. If the rumor is true, I think Brad Pitt should just drop the idea.
Only a fool would want to be compared to James Dean and that's exactly what would happen if Pitt (or anyone else) tried to remake it.

A perfect example of this is Brando in "Streetcar Named Desire." Brando "owns" that part and anyone else wanting to play Stanley Kawolski is setting themselves up for disaster.

One critic (it may have been Frank Rich, but I'm not sure) suggested that "Streetcar" be shelved for the next hundred years. I think that's pretty good advice.

30. No! Please somebody STOP them. Nobody can do James Dean but himself.
Brad Pitt was good in "Seven Years in Tibet," but he's no James Dean, by a longshot.

33. Maybe he should try remaking a loser like "Ishtar." The worst that
can happen is that it will stink as much as the original did.
