who is your hero?
One of my heroes is Abraham Lincoln. He faced more pressure than any man can hope to bear, but still managed to save the Union and doom slavery to extinction.

3. Lincoln
The only Republican politician ever to be worth more than spit. With Jefferson and Franklin, one of the three greatest Americans ever --- and having to bear much greater trials.

20. Senator Dirksen belongs in the (gross) "worth more than spit" bunch.
So does Barry Goldwater. A lot of Republican politicians do.

9. Okay, I am going with the easy one, Washington.
He set the tone when it was the hardest to do so because of the strong opposition. He had no one to fall back on and just forged ahead with what he felt was what we newbies should stand up for. Then he left the field, open to what would happen next.

So my vote is Washington

12. I'll see that corn and raise you an ear!
My son is my hero. He has taught me more in the 21+ years that I have known him than I learned in the 31 years I lived before I met him.

He started hating littering when he was five years old and he called me out whenever I let a piece of paper hit the ground. When I was about to be screwed by a new employer in a faraway town, his second-grade heart told me, "Dad, you have to use your imagination here. You have to make up your own world where they don't get you down."

He has pointed out to me every instance wherein I have been full of shit (way into the thousands by now) and has forced me to open my mind. He was on to Mad Cow Disease three years ago and gave up meat. He worries about Global Warming but refuses to be disheartened about the world that people like me will leave to him.

He is built like a Viking and is fair to look upon. He has the heart of a lion and the mind of a judge (the way they USED to be; not the way they have become since bu$h).

I have been playing guitar since I was 13, but my kid can mop the floor with me on the best day I ever had!

"Love" is hardly adequate, but it's as close as I can get!

:loveya:
Dad

23. Robert Francis Kennedy...
The cold warrior evolved into the left's most tortured humanist. He was the last, best hope for a liberal America--uniting whites, blacks, latinos, and Native Americans in his plan to dispel poverty and put an end to LBJ's madness.

Had he won, America have been spared the Nixon and Reagan regimes, and centrists like the Clintons, Lieberman and Gore would never have taken over the Democratic Party.

He is my inspiration.

28. My grandfather....
I wish I could have known him.

After he escaped with his own family from WWII France and certain death in Nazi concentration camps, he went back and forth across enemy lines to help many others escape as well.

He was arrested on May 13, 1941 in Paris during a Nazi sweep of the city. What became of him after that is unkown.

29. Marlene Dietrich
She had the courage to turn her back on a government
that she felt was not only a blight on her country but
a danger to the world.

She didn't just run away, she spoke out constantly on
why she was so opposed to the thugs who took over her
country and the willing accomplices who allowed this
to happen.

Regardless of what you may think of her talents (or lack
thereof), she will always be an example to me of a courageous
person who followed her heart and beliefs over simply going
along with popular opinion.

She will always be an inspiration to me to think for myself
and question everything, and not fall into easy answers that
lead to simplistic dogma.
