Look what I found in my backyard today! (Pics)
There were 4 of them in the front yard when we took Max out for a walk, a buck, 2 doe and a fawn. Max went all hunting dog on them, barking up a storm. They retreated to the back yard. At some point the buck and the fawn disappeared, but these two lay themselves about the yard almost all day, getting up and moving, then laying themselves back down. You couldn't see them from the street, so they had a nice quiet day...

2. Yeah, they were pretty at ease...
I may be a carnivore, but only if it comes from Pick and Save...

3. Very cool!!!
They look so relaxed and comfortable -- like they belong there. What did they eat? Here they get into all kinds of stuff that they shouldn't.

6. They are beautiful.
Those are great photos.

And they don't seem very upset or frightened.

They knew they had landed in a good yard!

7. Cool!
They don't look worried at all.

I've never had deer in my yard, but yesterday I had a visit from the World's Largest Raccoon. No kidding; that guy was the size of a Labrador retriever.

We don't get the calm wildlife popping up in the front yards in here Los Angeles.

I wonder why not?

RL, that is really cool. You took some great shots!

12. You don't have pets do you?
If so check for fleas.

I swear, when my Sammies lived up in the Santa Cruz mountains, EVERY time the deer came by, they'd have fleas all over in minutes.

18. Just like at my house.
Everytime I come home they all look at me like "What the hell? I was resting here!" Same with the rabbits, the foxes, the turkeys, the chipmunks, of course the mice in my walls, the groundhog that meanders across the lawn much to my dogs' dismay, the raccoons, etc. etc. And they are all right. What the hell am I doing in their space? We all coexist.

Well except for that skunk that one time....friggin dogs. yuck.

Lovely pictures btw. I tried to get a pic of a bunch of wild turkey the other day, but they all ran off before I could snatch my camera.

23. Wow, I usually don't see them that up close
unless they're lying dead at the side of I-90.

Be careful not to let the puppy out there off leash with them- I've heard that deer can kick and really hurt a dog.

They must have determined that you are not a hunter?

25. Keep them in your yard, please. It's a battle every winter
to keep them out of the shrubbery. The fall of 2005 I planted tulips the next spring the very night after they came into bloom the deer ate every last flower. It's like a obstacle course driving around here anymore.

28. What a beautifully, serene sight!
What's going on with the wild animals lately? It's as strange as the weather. We share a little cottage with my family in a quaint, Methodist, lake community --cottages are quite close together. Last weekend we went to stay -- and low and behold a pair of wild turkeys were strutting all around the neighborhood. Walking up and down the side walks, flying onto the tops of our neighbor's cars. They ended up roosting on top of our cottage.

I don't pretend to be a turkey or a deer expert...but aren't these wild animals on the shy side? Don't get me wrong I love seeing the deer, and the turkey sighting was a hoot. Just wondering what's up.

34. I always lived in the city and
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 12:15 PM by samplegirl
never saw wildlife up close. Now where I live I see it all the time as my property butts up to the woods.
I have seen more and more like this in Ohio this year than ever.
Rarely a night do I drive home through my development that I don't see a few.
I think they migrate to this section as we have a huge creek that
flows through our development. Nontheless, I like seeing them.
The wild turkeys are beautiful as well.
Makes me wonder how anyone could shoot something so beautiful.
I know its a must..................but I could never do it.
