I tell you what.... That Katie Elder had long breeding years...
I mean the Duke, or John Elder, is at least 35 years older than Bud Elder....

The Sons of Katie Elder, a John Wayne movie about a misunderstood gruff straight talkin' man of the west...

Did that guy ever act...

Palyed the same part right up til the day he died...

1. The closest John Wayne came to acting was "The Shootist"
But even then, he was still basically playing "John Wayne"

7. My favorite role...
Although I liked McClintock quite a bit. And The Quiet Man. But in The Shootist, he was a kinder, gentler...albeit the same...character.

9. I think the fact Wayne was diagosed with cancer around that time...
very much influcenced his role in "The Shootist". I liked "McClintock!" as well. And "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance". But I agree...he was kinder and gentler in "The Shootist"

12. It probably did...in fact I think that I read somewhere that he got the diagnosis during the filming
Insisted on finishing the movie and didn't tell anyone until afterwards. I think. Hell of a cast to go out with, too.

2. Ah yes, she sure did!
But that was back in the day ........

When men were men...

And the women were women!

John Wayne was perfect ....at playing himself, wasn't he?

I did love him when he played opposite Katherine Hepburn......

I forget the name of that movie, though......

:hi:

6. Yup...the only thing that ever changed
were the costumes. He had the army costumes (more variety there -- different wars, y'know) and the western stuff. And I swear, the western stuff was all the same.

Kinda like Clint Eastwood.

10. I dug "The Cowboys"
I was a teen at the time and I drawn to all those cute boys! I was also a big fan of Bruce Dern and Roscoe Lee Brown. Many people were upset with that film because...

(((((((((((((((SPOILER))))))))))))))

Wayne's character is murdered half way through the film

((((((((((((END SPOILER))))))))))))

11. She should did, must started real young.
If she had John about 14 or 15, she could have Bud in her 40's.

One of my grandmothers had brothers and sisters with kids when she was born in 1896.

My GreatMother was about 44 or 45 when she gave birth to my Grandmother.

My Grandmother then married at 14 and had or first kid at 15.

Girls married young back then, 15 was a lot older then today.
