I got a new job
I'm a truck driver and I've been waiting a long time to find a job like this. It's a local position that pays almost as good as driving long haul. I live in Ohio and I will be taking a load out of a city close to my home town and delivering it to some place in Ohio then coming back. It's drop and hook, too, which means that I just have to swap trailers when I get to my delivery point. No waiting at the docks. The only bad thing about it is that it's 3rd shift, but I think that I can get used to that and I will probably be able to switch to a better shift once I put a little time in with the company.

No more long haul for me. No more training students. No more stress. No more missed birthdays or holidays. No more 70 hour weeks. No more sleeping in a truck. I can actually live and work like a normal human being now.

9. I just got a new one too
short term but at a great per hour rate. My spouse has medical coverage so I don't have to worry about that, but I can once again have my own money. No more 70 to 80 hour nightmares. Strictly 9-5. I think I will be ok.

15. I was in the advertising field
but due to a multitude of family issues (nuclear and extended), I decided after years of hard work and life changes that I needed to be home and available at a moments notice for my family. I am doing support staff work (fancy name for exec admin assistant) But, at the hourly rate they are willing to pay, I am ok with working without the major stress of satisfying clients and upper management. It was the right thing to do at the right time in my life.

13. 3rd shift is not exactly like a normal human being
flipping your sleep around is said to be hard on the body. Since I have no family or personal life, I tried to keep the same schedule on my off days. Alot of my co-workers were like zombies on the first couple of nights back. At least towards the end of the night.

14. Compared to long haul team driving it is
You have to be able to drive at any time of the day. You have to be able to sleep at any time of the day as well. Give it a shot some time. I know a company that will hire you on the spot as long as your driving record is good.
