Best wishes to the Ford family....
especially Betty.

Screw GD, and if you don't can't say anything nice about the Fords, go find one of the other 200 threads on the subject.

I always liked Betty very much, and it was heartbreaking to see how small, frail and pained she was this week.

Betty studied dance under Martha Graham. She and her husband werre pro-choice, pro-ERA, and pro-gay-rights. They seem to have raised 4 great kids (her kids greeted all the visitors to the Capitol to visit the casket - that's pretty classy, in my book). Her work with drug/alcohol dependency and breast cancer awareness were pretty remarkable for her time.

This has been a grueling week for the family - I wish them nothing but peace and comfort.

1. I especially liked the 56 T-Bird. The 66 Fairlane GT was pretty cool too.

3. Seriously, MonkeyFunk, despite the levity (above), I feel the same way.
Touching and sad... Ford is at rest now.

Thanks for your kind comments.

In peace,

Radio_Lady

Christ, to read some of the stuff on GD, you'd think they should just dump Ford's corpse in the grave. Well, fuck that.

I have my disagreements about what consitutes Gerald Ford's legacy and his place in history as President. No, he was certainly not perfect. But, dammit...this is a man who represented attitudes and opinions about issues that are progressive...as you said, pro-choice on abortion, pro-gay rights, pro-ERA. And while his foreign policy has been slammed in GD...as I recall, Ford pushed for and signed SALT II. I think that's a pretty worthwhile achievement.

Betty Ford was and is a pretty classy lady. And she did champion some pretty important causes as First Lady.

I join you in wishing the Ford family peace and comfort.

6. Yes
he was more progressive than many DEMOCRATS today. The country was better off when men like Ford and Carter could run against each other and come out of it all close friends.

7. I agree.... my dad was no angel at times
but when he died I didn't need to be reminded of that. I wanted to celebrate the good things and mourn him.

There are times to critique ones life and it's NOT when the family needs to get through the worst of it.

8. Thanks, MonkeyFunk.
This man deserves respect -- he was president of the United States. You don't have to agree with him to respect him.

I just watched the video of Jimmy Carters eulogy at rawstory. It is very moving. My thoughts are with the Ford family.

9. A woman of strength and dignity
who helped reshape women's roles.

Who among us is truly a saint or a villain? I would hate for my life to be held up to such scrutiny.

12. Thank you for the positive and endearing post
Although I am indifferent on Ford, I won't bash him.

He wasn't a Nixon, Reagan or Bush, that says alot for me!!

Betty Ford is to be admired for her work and her guts.

She brought a human quality to the WH.

15. beautifully said, and what a long hard week. I thought about
her age and frailty when I was watching the church service on Tuesday.

I LOVED her as first lady! The Fords were quite progressive in many ways.
