OMG!! I hosted a co-ed sleepover last night! My reputation as a
responsible parent is ruined!

It started out when one kid asked to have a couple of her girl friends over night on New Year's Eve. That morphed into a party of fourteen with both high school daughters inviting friends of both sexes. This was a wild bunch, sitting around drinking Mountain Dew, talking and joking, watching Princess Bride and Blues Brothers, playing Halo and Monopoly all night. Some even took time out to sneak off into a corner to read! Two of the guys stayed over and crashed in my sons' room. One fellow went to bed about 7AM.

Seriously, what a nice bunch of kids. It's a good way to start the New Year.

1. Kind of fun isn't it.
We did that for Prom. My wife conked out at ~3 but I stayed up all night to keep an eye on things.

2. My only complaint is the soundtrack on the video game.
I keep thinking a movie is on, and it's only a game.

DS has been going to co-ed sleepovers for about 3 or 4 years now. (he's now 19) She was absolutely horrified when she heard about it, but it seems to be the norm here now. The parents were always there and everything was well supervised. And - GASP - no one got pregnant, raped or drunk!

Of course, my sister is a right-wing, republican, fundamentalist teetotaler who doesn't let her son out of her sight.... We're left-wing, democrat/NDP, Catholic drinkers.....

4. I wish I knew what I did right with these kids.
If I could bottle it, I'd make a fortune! Somehow I've managed to raise teenagers who have assimilated their own rules of proper conduct so I haven't had to lay down any rules such as curfew. I usually tell them two things; be careful not to do anything with a group you wouldn't do by yourself (my theory is that the average teen's common sense is divided by the number of teens in the group) and always call home for a ride if you don't like the situation.
