1. Norton Internet Security.
Installed it 2 months ago and I don't think I've had one pop-up since then.

20. Norton Anti-Spam
Includes a pop up blocker that has been working great. It filters the spam to a folder. I still can't believe the quantity of spam, but it catches it.

Netscape 7.1
The popup blocker on the newest version of Netscape is surprisingly effective. Many still get through, but I'd say maybe 1/4 of what pops up using IE.

7. Yes, if you have Earthlink.
Earthlink also has a powerful spam blocker.

Both are free w/ your Earthlink account.

11. I wouldn't care to install their software.
I wouldn't care to install all of Earthlink's internet access software and, IIRC, it seems to be mostly an all or nothing proposition with their package.

Google toolbar misses a few now and then but it blocks a lot (I haven't personally used it on my computer but I have tried it on my sister's machine a while back). Mozilla Firebird's browser works great despite being a development version (it's definitely at least as stable as MSIE) and does a great job at blocking popups.

8. Dogpile has a toolbar you can download
that attaches to your browser and blocks all popups. makes a cool grrrrrr noise when it does it, too. My dogpile had blocked 100 popups in the last two weeks.

16. Google Toolbar....
<snip>

Google's toolbar is spyware:
With the advanced features enabled, Google's free toolbar for Explorer phones home with every page you surf, and yes, it reads your cookie too. Their privacy policy confesses this, but that's only because Alexa lost a class-action lawsuit when their toolbar did the same thing, and their privacy policy failed to explain this. Worse yet, Google's toolbar updates to new versions quietly, and without asking. This means that if you have the toolbar installed, Google essentially has complete access to your hard disk every time you connect to Google (which is many times a day). Most software vendors, and even Microsoft, ask if you'd like an updated version. But not Google. Any software that updates automatically presents a massive security risk.

There is a lot of good information on that page about google. One thing I know for sure - I have done searches for things and within an hour or so of searching on google...started getting spam mail regarding exactly what I searched for.

18. ABSOLUTE BEST IS MOZILLA WITH ADBLOCK
It blocks popups, you can right-click and block ads using wildcards.
It blocks without downloading the data (lowers your bandwidth).
It EVEN blocks flash! (Those annoying animated ads you see everywhere).

Mozilla can be downloaded here.
Adblock for mozilla can be downloaded here.

Use the "experimental" version of Adblock. It works perfectly.
