I rode my bicycle 186 miles (300K) in 8 hrs 45 min., today.
Started with a loop around Key Biscayne (Florida) then we rode down to the Everglades National Park and then through the park to the west coast of S Florida - and then back to finish with another loop of Key Biscayne.

Average speed just over 21 mph.

We took 3 breaks. About 10-20 minutes every 60 miles.

I feel great. My butt is the sorest because of the rough & choppy pavement of the national park (about 85 miles).

I started this thread just before I headed out to meet the group this morning..

We all need to move a little more.

2 years ago I was a 185 lb beer guzzling slob with a jelly belly. Now, I weigh 150 w/no jelly left.

3. Congrats, that's a great workout
do you look any thinner? I would expect to after over 8 hours of motion, and 21 is a great speed for that distance.

6. Yep. I am thinner. Burned about 15,000 calories.
Of course, I'm going to eat & drink about 10,000 tonite. ;)

8. Thanks. I'm getting there.
Next time I do 186mi/300K I would like to average closer to 25mph (I can ride 100 miles at 25mph ave). I practiced by riding over 300 miles a week with at least 1 century a week over the summer/fall season.

9. You are a nut. A great nut. Must get padding for your next ride.

10. Cycling shorts do have padding.
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 07:30 PM by Mika
I've got great hi-end shorts, but doing over 80 of 180 miles on some of the roughest, large grain, and chopped up pavement I've ever ridden on is still rough on the butt.

Most of the roads in Cuba are better than Everglades National Park roads. (Been there, ridden there.)

My S.O. thinks I'm a nut also. But she likes the end results. ;)

11. I'm sure she does. I got a padded seat for my bike. Found it helped.
Here is to you and all that biking: :toast:
