Johnny Depp...

That oughta be fun as JD is a rock-n-roller from way back....

1. That's an interesting choice.
And I think Depp can pull it off.

Is this movie a full bio of Freddy Mercury?

5. So can I.
And I think that Depp can show the...what's the word I'm looking for...the "flamboyance", I guess...to play Freddie Mercury.

19. A certain flamboyance....
I watched Sleepy Hollow last night and started to think about what an amazing career this fine actor has managed to put together...

Either way, it's a must see.

I can just see that "Radio Ga Ga" concert scene already.

9. Well no, and I love JL...but wasn't Freddie a rather
tall lanky fellow? That might be hard to pull off.

And now you've given me visions of Sly in a white catsuit. :scared:

10. Eek, sorry about eliciting that imagry!
In truth, I know nothing about Freddie M except his face and the killer music. Guess I was seeing JL's face and extroverted performances as being a good fit, but as you say all other factors are not equal.

And for the record, big Johhny Depp fan here...all the way back to 21 Jump St. But I wonder if vocally he is a good casting choice here??

11. Tom Cruise playing Freddie Mercury isn't exactly a lovely image.
Of course, if that were to happen, Freddie would have to be completely "de-gayed" and would have to be one swingin' 10000% hetero.

27. Yea, I really liked his performance....
I just don't think he is flamboyant enough to pull of FM...

His Comodius was flamboyant but tinged with uber masculinity, a combination of traits that wereas far removed from FM as well, Johnny Cash...

Sasha's entire career has been in comedy. He's extremely tall. You don't follow up your breakout role where the ridiclous character that had a mustache with a serious biopic of a mustachioed famous person.

Johnny Depp is the most popular actor in Hollywood most clearly on people who want him to play them or play characters dear to them. I've heard Hugh Hefner, Ozzy Osborne and Tommy Lee all state pretty straight-forwardly he's their only pick to play them which mostly shows how both unimaganitve they are and also how deluded they are about their "good looks".

But unlike those guys Johnny is actually someone who resembles Freddy both in the face and body. He's an acting-demi-God who started out as a rock-and-roller who's now playing the perfect rock demi-God.

I was visiting a friend in Switzerland and they had the telly on. It might have been the original Band-Aid concert. Anyway, Freddy Mercury was singing and my friend said, "A rabbit that sings."

He's young enough and can sing the part. AND, he's into guyliner. Perfect fit.

49. please don't act like people shouldn't have to google who the hell "Lukas Rossi" is
a reality tv star who doesn't resemble Freddy Mercury should never be considered to play Freddy Mercury.

Johnny and hopefully a lookalike younger actor for earlier scenes are best set to just have Freddy's vocals dubbed over their singing.

40. This topic reminded me of a Tank Abbott quote
UFC fighter Dan Severn had short hair and a mustache much like Mercury had late in his career. When Severn's opponent Tank Abbott was interviewed after their fight (Severn dominated)he said it was like "getting raped by Freddie Mercury"!
