MySpace sucks recently.

Almost every time I try to load a page it takes forever, if it loads at all. I keep getting error messages. I can't get in to check the blogs I'm subscribed to. Damn, it's frustrating over there.

Yes, I'm happy to be where it isn't cold. I'm a little lonely because I don't know anyone (except my ex and my stepson) here but I hope that'll change after my trike gets here next week.
Are things going well ~ sorta ~ I'm getting a little tired of being awakened by helicopter searches at 2AM (last night) or 3AM (two weeks ago). I think there are more law enforcement officers per square mile here than anywhere I've ever lived before. I know I'll be moving outta this neighborhood next Fall when my lease is up.
Thanks for asking and giving me a chance to whine about why I've been missing ... plus now I'm on dial-up which adds to my reluctance to turn on the computer. x(

I have a 6 1/2 year old POS PC with Windows 98, and IE is completely useless...a spyware-attracting nightmare. Firefox and Opera work fairly well, but I just figured that Myspace isn't too friendly to non-Microsoft browsers and just haven't spent much time there as a result. Actually, I just realized you didn't mention which browser you're using. Is it IE or soemthing else?

But that's mostly due to bad coding and profile pages that have a ton of crap on them, especially a lot of large images and flash objects. MySpace was set up as a coding nightmare. Since you can't change the original layout and only hide it with code, browsers take a long time to first digest the original code and then the bits of code that override the MySpace code. MySpace really should do something about making it possible to not only override their code with other code but actually replace it. Surely they realize by now that most people prefer to have their own layout set up how they like... not everyone wants a blog, or the lists of favorite junk, or give a crap about who they'd like to meet, or even want any comments or have anyone see who their friends are, or know if they're single, don't smoke and drink like a fish.

But the bigger problem is pages that just have too much STUFF on them. Since you only get one page, all your content has to be loaded on that one page which can take forever. Yet I always see pages that have huge images and allow friends to add even more huge images to their comments section and they don't even split up their comment section into separate pages so ALL their comments with all the huge attached images get loaded on the same page... eventually... occasionally. On top of that, they'll have all kinds of videos and other flash objects, a falling marquee, chat, clock, mp3 player, and Lord knows what all else. I can't even count how many profile pages I've been to that at some point just freeze up because there's just too much crap on them for any browser to handle... of course, the page owner doesn't think there's a problem that their page is causing peoples' browers to crash because all the crap is being pulled from their own cache (which they never clean out if they even know what it is).

Long story short... MySpace is always going to be slow until MySpace starts letting people replace their original page stucture code and people realize that you just can't put a ton of crap on a single page and expect it all to load before the next day or ever.

I agree. Steamlining the monster-sized front pages would speed up everything. And I wonder how well they bother to maintain their back-end, given how little they do on the front-end. :shrug:
