Rummaging in the basement, found my old National Lampoons
At least some of them, mostly from the early to mid 70's. Still very funny stuff, it's aged really well. The ads, too, I found one for Bruce Springsteen's debut album. Needless to say, I didn't get much work done after finding them.

1. Allright! Michael O'Donoghue is one of my HEROES.
Probaly possessed the sharpest, deadliest wit of any human, ever.

"Today is the first day of the rest of your life...and you've already fucked it up."

Do you have the issue with Lt. Calley's KIll the Children Foundation in it?

The Lampoon under O'Donohugue as peerless.

2. I was particularly fond
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 01:35 AM by realpolitik
of Mrs Agnew's Diaries...
Son O God, and Vaugn Bode comics were great.

Remember Trots and Bonnie?

Or perhaps the book, The Job Of Sex?
Deteriorata?
"You are a fluke of the Universe...
and whether you can hear it or not, the universe
is laughing behind your back."

5. Yeah, they're all great
I remember one letter to the editor:

Sirs:

All right, you fuckheads, who really writes Mrs. Agnew's Diary?!?!?

Sincerely,
Mrs. Agnew

You know, come to think of it, you'd just have to change "Spiggy" to "Dubya" throughout and you'd have "Mrs. Bush's Diary!"

BTW, I also have a first edition High School Yearbook Parody.

3. "Vacation '58"
I proudly cherish my copy of NatLamp that has John Hughes' original short story that turned into the "Vacation" films.

4. The early 70's....
...were the 'Golden Age' of National Lampoon. I wish I still had my old copies. Especially the '1964 High School Yearbook.' They were classic.

6. Please Tell Me
That you found the issue promoting a charity for Terminal Flatulence ("Seven Warning Signs of T.F." Sign #1: unexplained pet deaths). My friends and I laughed our arrears off at that one.

Another classic: Gahan Wilson's "Paranoids' Guide to Travel" ("your phrase book contains the sentence 'Help! I'm locked in, and my hotel room is on fire'..)

Next best thing? The *Buy this Magazine, or We'll Shoot this Dog" cover.

Goddess, but I miss the Lampoon. I *was* Faun Laurel Rosenburg.

Landover Baptist and The Onion picked up the torch, so hope is not lost.
