The Rose Bowl Parade is decadent and depraved
Ever seen this hunk of loose shit on TV? I've just had to watch about a half an hour of it, and I feel utterly unhealthy. The forced commentary, the celebration of all things caucasian, the oversized floats all dedicated to the grandeur of objects/concepts which are soulless, corporate and republican...The goddamned stelth bomber flew over the crowd (!) and nobody seemd to begrudge the pork involved in bringing such a wonderfully useless machine into the world (but don't get the average paradegoer started on Welfare spending, oh no....)I'd rather sit on a knife that watch this mad cow offal EVER again.

Where's my fucking Paxil.....?

1. Stealth
Why is the stealth bomber useless in your humble opinion?

7. Why?
Because it costs over a BILLION dollars per plane and will never be used to do what it was designed to do (drop nuclear bombs on Russia/China).

Sure, we need a strong military, but it's a complete waste of money to build all those B-2's that we don't even need.

9. I agree about the B-2...
There was no point in the mission it was designed for, and no mission since then.
For what it costs to build a squadron, you could build a Aircraft Carrier Battle Group. For what it cost for spares for the squadron, you could run that CVBG for a year.
Or, if you aren't a hawk like myself, you could spend the billions of dollars reducing the deficit, or providing health care, or improving education...

10. No, that's waht the whole multinational corporate nexus is all about
THe concepts behind America's formation are actually GOOD, that's why I fiercely love my country and am so sickened by what I see it turning into. This hunky-dory horseshit has nothing to do with the ORIGINAL America, the land of true freedom and liberty. The Rose Bowl Parade (and all the other "victory processions" foisetd upon us in the media life is a perversion of what AMerica really is, behind the bunting.

Infact, what I saw today had more in common with those famous Soviet parades we always used to see on TV...or "Triumph of the Will."

Jeezus, I always tell myself, NO MORE TV. NO MORE TV. You know it makes you mad....but still, I always break my own rules and end up watching occasionally and getting hell-fired for a few hours. That shit is like heroin, it's no good, it'll kill ya....

14. It's more kitsch and bread and circuses - chill
In the great scheme of things, I can't get too worked up with hatred for the Rose Parade. I understand your point, but it's a too charged up way to begin the New Year aiming at a pretty inconsequential target. Watch some football and relax, at least for today.

11. So, why did you have to watch it?
If you've got some severe physical or mental problems that keep you away from the remote & you're unable to move to another room, you have my sympathy.

It's on here in the background--HGTV has it commercial-free. It's silly. It's always been silly.

I did enjoy the Buffalo Soldier re-enactors. Also the marching band from Puebla--mariachi themed to give coronaries to old farts on both sides of the border.

There are far more worthy targets of your anger.

15. I chose to immerse myself in the cavalcade of horrors that is television
this AM, just to get a gauge on the world outside, and was met with images of the stealth bomber looking like it was strafing a crowd of Americans....Like I said, I watched for a half an hour, just as a sociology experiment. Never again.

17. I enjoy the artistry with flowers
and organic materials. That's why I watch it. Just to see people coming together to do these massive community projects that are so ethereally beautiful. I have to stare.

Besides, JPL, the Pasadena area was once (or maybe still is) a flower-growing area. The Rose Parade was a way to advertise that. So I take the commercial side of it in that vein. Think of it as one long 2 hour Chamber of Commerce commercial.
