My humor has a rather sarcastic side to it, so I like National Lampoons Xmas, Ernest saves Xmas, A Christmas Story, and a few South Park episodes...also, Scrooge with Bill Murray...:D

2. I like...

in no particular order...

The original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". It's been my favorite since I was a small child.
A Christmas Story - Ralphie's dad reminds me so much of my late father. Gotta love him down there fixing the furnace, swearing up a storm.
The original Miracle on 34th street.
and like the previous post said, gotta love "Christmas Vacation". I love cousin Eddie, out there dumping raw sewage into the gutters. "Merry Christmas! Shitters full!". :rofl:

3. The Trailer Park Boys Christmas Special is brilliant.

And the Charlie Brown Christmas voiced by the cast of Scrubs that I posted but most people ignored is pretty awesome too.

4. A Christmas Story is one of my favorite movies of any genre

I saw it when it first came out in the theater - my then-husband and I saw trailers for it and we knew it was right up our alley. "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" :rofl:

And I've always love the original Grinch.

10. I agree,

I absolutely love that sappy movie! I cry ALL the way through it. From Mr Gower abusing George in the drug store, to the sappy honeymoon scene, and when George yells at Tommy to stop playing the piano.... the whole thing chokes me up. At the end when the whole town comes in to bail George out,and everyones singing Auld Lang Syne...I just about need a bucket to cry into.

I just thought of something profound... George Bailey is like a Democrat, and Mr Potter is like a Republican. Maybe that's why I like it so much!

17. A handful of them. It's just not Christmas without them:

Frosty
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Charlie Brown Christmas
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story

And a big thumbs down to all the sequel-y ones like "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" and "A Year Without a Santa Claus," and whatever that Frosty follow-up was. Just the originals, thank you very much.

9. Not to get TOO far off topic here, but...

are there any other folks who feel like in this age of "buy it on DVD, or tune into any one of 100 tv stations and watch it anytime you want", there's just something missing? I mean, when I was a kid and one of these Christmas specials came on tv, it was an EVENT! Back in those days, you were lucky to have a dozen stations. Maybe fewer. VCR's didn't even exist yet. And usually, they showed these specials once a year and that was it. If you missed it, you had to wait till next year.

Maybe it's just me. Some of the magic of the shows disappear when you can watch them anytime.

11. I don't think anythings missing, unless you

pop in the movies all year long...the only movie I have remotely close to being a Xmas movie is...like, Die Hard!...I don't buy xmas movies, I know that the networks will usually start pushing it all around thanksgiving, until the all day marathon of xmas flicks on the 25th of December...But, I understand where you are coming from though...(I believe) :D

13. I have like 5 or 6 Christmas movies on DVD

but another thing I can compare it to is "The Wizard of Oz". Man, I can remember as a kid they played that movie once a year. And days beforehand you got excited about it. Now, heck, if you have it on DVD it's like "big deal. I own it.".

Oh well. Time marches on. :) My god, I'm starting to sound like those old folks when I was a kid! "When I was your age...." Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!

19. I think it's different

Watching your DVD and watching it on TV knowing a whole bunch of other people are doing the same thing at the same time. I know there isn't any physically perceivable difference, but it feels different to me.

14. I missed "Rudolph" on Friday because of a school event.

I have the video, but watching it on TV makes it more fun with all the commercials (did I actually say that!). Ah, yes, and the Grinch...cartoon only! So, I'm standing out in the pouring rain with another parent waiting for the kids and I'm yapping on and on about how I like Rudoplh and he probably thought I was way out there. All the parents are old enough to be my kids for the most part.

18. The Sound of Music

It's not a Christmas movie, but they always used to air it at Christmastime. I have good memories of sitting under the Christmas tree in my parent's family room and watching it. :) And Frosty. It always made me sad when he melted.
