Should there ever be "Two Americas"?
Seriously - even despite 2006, there is a serious difference between "The Heartland" and the Costal US. I see it every time I go to places like Lubbock, TX, Oklahoma, Montana and Wyoming from the confines of the Bay Area.

Those of us in "Blue America" are always told to reach out and undersand our fellow citizens in "Red America" - but do they ever do the same for us? If someone posts an "I just don't get NASCAR" thread here, we are beaten senseless by people accusing us of handing the WH to the Republicans, being red-state-haters and ivory tower snobs. Yet, you could easily post "I hate Opera" or any other stereotypical Blue-state entertainment.

So I ask, is two Americas in fact a good thing? They don't want us, and we only pretend to want them.

4. I don't get it.
I was cleaning one of my buildings last night, it's a grading company. About as blue-collar as you can get. Very working class. The man who owns it has an office that is like a museum, i.e. it's just for show and there is no work getting done it it. I never noticed much of what was in his display case til last night. He has a framed picture of Charlton Heston from the NRA. Some trophy from the National Republican Congressional Committee naming him 'Businessman of the year' for 2005. Lots of pictures in cammies, with his grandkids dressed in hunting attire. I just don't understand why the dividing line in this country is where it is. Oh, and the obligatory bibles, too.

5. Me neither
I have a good friend who votes Dem straight accross, but he makes ALOT of cash and definitely benefits off W's tax cuts. I also have an ex-coworker who was blue collar, and loved to quote the bible and Bush.

6. Which of the two Americas would I live in?
I'm a red stater, I live in Oklahoma.

I despise Nascar and The Blue Collar Comedy Guys.

I love the Opera, Symphony and Plays.

I'm skipping the church's Christmas banquet to attend the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's performance.

So where would I fit in?

7. But what are Austin Texas and Asheville NC to do?
They're as liberal as any northern city I've seen. And a lot of the people defending NASCAR are posers from the North. We're all mixed in together.
