Have a question about Internet Explorer...help!
I downloaded an update of Internet Explorer today (version 7) My previous version was 5.1. I have some funny pictures in my download file that I got off Democratic Underground over the last several years that I can't access now. (You know, pictures of Cheney with horns, Bush being thrown in the trash, etc.) These are pictures that have the Explorer icon. What it shows now is a small box with an X. When I right click on the box, it says "show picture" but when I click on it, it still doesn't show the picture.

Is there anyway that I can fix this and be able to access these pictures again?
By the way, I saved this stuff on a CD a while back, but when I try to access the stuff on the CD, I'm having the same problem.

By the way, at 56, I'm only marginally talented on a computer, not like you youngins'.

1. How did you save them? Did you save them as individual graphics...
...by right-clicking and doing something like "Save Image As..." or did you save the pages which contained the image themselves?

4. Sometimes I did "Save Image As" and sometimes just saved the pages
that contained the image themselves.

5. Right-click one of the red xs, click "properties"

then navigate (outside of IE 7) to the location and open them from there. If that doesn't work,
your IE 7 cache may have been deleted during installation, or there may be a security setting in IE7 to check next...

edit: clarity

8. Hrm, probably the cache then. Ok, get the names of the files and...
...try searching for them with wildcards. So if the picture was saved as BushHornedDevil010.bmp, search for *horned* and see what turns up. Contextually, if you find one you can probably find the rest in the same place. Getting the properties on the original file is gold if it gives you the names of the files when they were stored, to search on.

Also, check the size of the files. Are they 0 bytes (when viewing properties)? This would mean they're "empty", wiped. You _could_ try an un-delete program if you were REALLY REALLY willing to wade through a huge number of files to get the files back. I dunno how hard they were to get to begin with. Also, try not to save anything to your C drive during this time as deleted files are overwritten by new files. Including, ironically enough, cached files from browsing for an un-deletion program. 8^(

10. Will work on the problem tomorrow, greyl
Got one more question, though. I'm assuming the new version overwrites the old one. If I wanted to go back to the old version, I guess I would have to do a restore, right?

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much Poll...I've got a friend that will come over if I get stuck.
