"That Girl" Marathon on TV Land
Edited on Sun Dec-10-06 08:45 PM by OzarkDem
Watched some of it last evening and again tonight. What a great show it was, the beginning of feminism.

If you get a chance, go to TV Land's web site and watch the interviews with Marlo Thomas. She talks of how she convinced the ABC execs to explore a different kind of young women's TV show by sending them a copy of The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan. They took the risk and let her develop it as a more modern version of a young woman's life. She was also lucky to land the writers from the Dick Van Dyke show,

Ted Bessell really was a good actor, too. He knew how to play the boyfriend's role without being demeaning to her character as a woman. I recall I loved Donald when I was young, watching now he reminds me of some of the guys I dated growing up.

Marlo is a great woman (and a loyal Dem, too).

Share your memories..

Did you know she ended up being the producer of the show? While in her 20's? That had to shake up the TV establishment.:hi:

8. You should have watched
I think my brothers had crushes on Marlo. It was the only show I watched that they didn't try to change channels on.
