My company Christmas party was tonight
Free
Good food
Good bar, and cheap
Nice conversation
Absolute worst fucking band in existence, and a stupendously bad choice to play at the party

Let's put it this way: say you're going to have roasted beef tenderloin for dinner. Nice gourmet meal. You try it, and find out that the chef got mixed up, and instead of using red wine for the sauce, he used red wine vinegar.

That was this band. They had a lead female singer that had a range of one note. They did Doobie Brothers' Long Train Runnin', and she was about 2 1/2 octaves lower than the tune on the chorus. It was literally painful to listen to, and how it fit into a Christmas party for a dance band is beyond me.

they even played 'Rocky Top', for God's sake!

2. They ran a bunch of people off too
They waited for the second music break to give out the rest of the door prizes, and we left because we couldn't stand it anymore.

6. I'm new to the company
Thought it would be a good place to meet some folks. And it was - before the band started.

7. It is revealing, and interesting, that you have defined the party by the female singer's voice.
That is all.

8. Not the party, the band.
And actually, she was the one that defined it.

I don't see the need to point the finger of sexism here. If the singer was male and couldn't carry a tune, it would have been just as bad.

12. You'd be surprised how many club/private bands play "Long Train Runnin'".
I hear it being played at casinos all the time, and I still don't understand it. It just doesn't fit.

18. Kinda bizarre for a Christmas party, isn't it?
Some dance music would've been nice, especially since it was advertized.

17. At least you didn't have to listen to an hour of contemporary gospel....
by a local gospel group, which is what I was subjected to at our fire department banquet on Thursday night.

:P

I did win a door prize, though, so it kinda made up for the boredom--and I spent half of the time outside smoking with the other fire dudes.

:D
