Need some help on a satellite radio
It needs to be portable, as in carry around while walking, using ear buds. Also work in a car and boat. I understand you can get them to work through your FM radio for in the house listing.

Which service is the best for music. Country, Rock, Oldies. The wantie here is not interested in talk radio.

1. Get a Pioneer Inno... XM...

You can get a home dock and car dock. Also load it with your own MP3's.

2. I think XM has a transister type radio, I would try to get it on e-bay
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 09:53 PM by MissWaverly
otherwise, I think it sells for $299.00 brand new, I have Sirius for home, with a Sirius
receiver and a boombox that it fits into, if you want it for yourself, I would get it thru
the computer and listen while you are on, for the thing that works everywhere you would be
better off going with XM and the transister thing, otherwise you would have to get a subscription
for house and car and maybe the boat too, which would be $30.00; they charge for each location,
at least it is like that with sirius.

4. Two recommendations.

First, I have an XM2Go. It's great. Rechargeable. It goes from car to home to ????. My version is the Tao, which is a good and reliable unit.

I have found it to be a very reliable and robust unit. I've kicked it around for over a year and it just keeps on ticking. It comes with both car and home accessories so you don't need to buy any extras if that's what you want. There is one item which helps when used as a portable, though. The built-in antenna doesn't work great in all areas. There is a little clip-on antenna which you can get that costs less than $20 that improves portable performance. I can't remember where I got it, but if you PM me, I'll look it up.

The XM2Go will automagically record programs for you, or you can press a hot button to start recording "right now". You can time-shift any program that way. The memory is limited to about four hours. This is all self-contained, so you are limited in what you can do with it, although I imagine you could capture stuff on your computer if you want.

I pump the output of the home unit into my sound card of my computer and play it through it. If I want to capture something, I just record it as it plays. Another nice feature is that the unit has a built-in FM modulator so connection to any car radio is simple--just connect the antenna and mount the unit wherever you want. Then, just tune to the configured frequency on your car radio and the unit plays perfectly. It works very well.

Second, there is a new generation of XM portables. Pioneer and Samsung make the top rated units. These guys support MP3, although I don't think they have a lot of memory and I don't think that they have expandability. Too bad.

There are some really good deals from XM right now. Look for coupon codes in Google: "XM radio coupon". That's how I got my XM2Go. Retail price was $300. Street price was $200. I paid $150 and it included free activation and three months of service. Not a bad deal.

5. I think your XM2Go must be like mine. Extremely durable and portable:

Highly recommended.

Probably some good deals on Ebay too these days.

6. Screw e-bay.
Coupon codes for XM site probably can get you a brand new one at a great price, with a warranty, and with free months of service and no connection fee.

9. I have one also, and I love it,
although I just accidentally slammed a glove compartment door on my car antenna, and will probably have to get a new one (not anyone else's fault but mine).

"abesofmaine.com" has an excellent deal on this unit right now.
