What's your favorite breakfast?
If you like breakfast, that is.

Just watched "Top Chef" (as an aside, I don't really like the host or the celebu-judges, but some of the challenges are interesting) and the elimination challenge was making a breakfast. Now I'm starving.

I LOVE breakfast foods, pretty much any time of the day.

I like a mix of sweet and salty - pancakes with eggs (over easy or hard boiled or scrambled...), eggs with some sort of veggie meat product thingie (Boca products), or waffles with cottage cheese. Or, I love potatoes, eggs, some sort of faux-veggie-meat hash product and of course, excellent toast. Not light anemic toast, but almost burned, dark toast - wheat, rye or pumpernickel - with butter.

Fresh orange juice. Good coffee.

How about you?

2. so what time do you start thinking about food?
do you have a hard time eating before noon? My ex-bf was like that - on weekends I'd want to make these huge piles of pancakes and eggs and he'd just turn green and plead for nothing but coffee.

I was EXTREMELY spoiled as a child - Mom would bring me big breakfasts - eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, whatever - every single morning until I went to college. It became such a part of my day I still have to have something in the morning, even if it's just coffee and a banana - can't function otherwise.

6. Well
Atm I'm having a bit of an "issue" with food. But before (when I was a relatively normal person ) I couldn't really eat until noon or later.

3. Absolutely, without a doubt, Eggs Benedict.
With real hollandaise, of course. And some fresh wedges of lemon.

Nothing like it. I adore it. It would probably be my last meal if I had to make a choice.

If I'm in the mood for sweet, a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream.

If I don't have a sweet tooth, an omlette with tomatoes and mushrooms. :9

8. Oh yummmmmm
I also love breakfast. Have you ever been to Melbourne, Australia? Hands down the best and greatest breakfast I've ever had. It's worth the plane ticket just to go to the Hot Poppy.

My perfect breakfast: Good, crunchy sourdough toast with butter and vegemite, topped with runny poached eggs. Roasted mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes on the side, and maybe a little avocado. A big fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and a perfectly made black coffee.

My other favorite simple breakfast is Wheat Chex with unsweetened soy milk. That is heaven.

13. I made myself starving, too!
I am salivating all over my desk. Hee hee.

Melbourne has the best food of any city I've ever been to; it's got good everything, but the breakfast (especially for me, Breakfast Adorer) really blows everything else out of the water.

12. I love big, traditional style breakfasts including eggs, meat...
some kind of bread (English muffin, bagel, toast, pancakes, coffee cake), cheese, juice or fruit, and coffee; however, what I eat the vast majority of the time is whole grain cereal with 1% milk and a couple cups of coffee.

14. (I'm adding to my first post... kinda) I also really like "European"
breakfasts -- when I've been in Italy, Finland, even in Turkey and Russia, breakfasts come with flatbreads, cheeses, olives, cucumber, salami and other sliced meats... and this hotel in Porvoo, Finland had the best oatmeal/porridge/hot breakfast cereal I've ever had in my life. And divine croissants. The breakfast buffet at the Astoria Hotel in St. Petersburg is also incredible. My favorite part of my first trip to Russia - breakfasts at the Astoria, afternoons in the Hermitage.

Sigh.

29. And quince paste in turkey!
Oh, that is truly glorious. I should have thought of the white cheese/olives/breads/hard-boiled eggs and other treats that I ate in Turkey and on a totally random jaunt to Azerbaijan. There is something to it; ESPECIALLY the apple tea.

Here in Thailand, the best breakfast is something called "bammi haeng" which is egg noodles, peanuts, chili, sprouts, and a bit of sugar with homemade fish balls. oh, it's a happy and divine thing, but my perfect breakfast is still what i outlined above!

24. Mine's similar!
scrambled eggs with lots of mushrooms, green onion, red and green peppers, (and sometimes kielbassa), sprinkled with cheese, put in a warm (rice) tortilla, and add lots of salsa.

Another is a spinach, mushroom, potato and onion frittata.

23. I love breakfast!
At home, it's nearly always the same......

Orange juice while I assemble the rest.......

Then, a big glass of skim milk, and a slice of (usually) whole wheat toast, smothered in peanut butter and jam......

Sometimes a piece of cantaloupe or some berries with my toast......

Coffee afterwards, while I read the paper...

I love my breakfast!

I'm suprised no one's mentioned bagels and cream cheese, or bialys -- another favorite of mine, though after moving from NYC I haven't had many good bagels. Can't find a decent one where I live, unfortunately!

26. Japanese
White rice with dried seaweed and natto, a slice of grilled salmon or cod, miso soup, salted radishes, green tea.

If I'm going Western, I like grits with butter and molasses, scrambled eggs, grilled sausages, and chicory coffee.

Sometimes a Bloody Mary is nice.

My favorite? Scrambled eggs with cheese. A couple of strips of bacon. Hash browns, crispy. One pancake. Maybe some orange juice. My husband makes breakfast on weekend mornings as a treat for me.

I'm in heaven, and I'm not hungry again till dinnertime.

In a big ole bowl! I never eat after 6 pm so I am starving in the morning. Breakfast and Lunch are my major meals with 2 or 3 fruit or veg snacks along the way. I'm 47 and I have eaten this way for the past 20 years. I am 5-9 and 127 pounds. I also run between 45-65 miles a week. Heavy fatty foods make me ill. Food is fuel to me. I have never been a "comfort" eater.

Try my fav breakfast! It looks AWFUL but tastes GREAT.
