6 Days of no electricity after the ice storm. I'm finally back!!!!!
We got hit with a bad ice storm last thursday night which took out our power lines. About an hour ago I FINALLY got my power back..

This was one week from hell...

It's good to be plugged back in. Hello eveyrone. :)

I just felt the urge to post something to confirm I'm really back. :D

2. yikes! hope you were able to keep warm somehow
i was out of electricity for 6 days once but had a fireplace so we were ok, but saving the fish in the 5 aquariums was another story--they had most of the blankets and we only lost 2 fish

glad you're safe and back

3. Welcome back! That's awful to be without power for that long!
I know we had a similar, but not as long, problem last year here in Ga. Our power was only out for 3 days, and thank Godmy sonbrought us his generator to use while it was out. I've been looking at generatorsever since, hoping to find one on sale somewhere. I just hate to spend $700-$800 for something you only use once every2 or 3 years!

Anyway, welcome back!

4. Welcome back!
How bad was it, it's been pretty cold. Did you have heaters or a wood stove to keep warm? Hope everyone is ok from the ordeal.

5. Welcome back to the grid!
You must be very relieved by now. If I have a blackout for just a few hours, even during the day, even in the summer, I get very edgy. ;-)

This time last year: 2 trees on the 100-year old house we were restoring and 7 days without power as an aftermath of sneak ice storm in Greenville, SC.

8. Welcome back!
I didn't have power for 3 days one summer and thought it was awful! I can't imagine twice that long in the winter!

18. Yeah right in the very center. We got nailed.
Had some property damage, but I'm just glad it wasn't as bad as some folks got it.

13. Probably a little late, but time to think about that generator.

I grew up in rural Kansas... and after a big ice storm we lost electric power AND the roads were not drivable. Because we had a fuel oil furnace which needed electricity to pump the oil and drive the fans, we had no heat but the fireplace. Ditto with the water (no electricity, no pump, no water). we all camped out in the living room with the fireplace and melted snow for drinking water and flushing water... ate mostly frozen food from pantry and fridge (actually took all of the food from the fridge and placed it on a rack in the breezeway (and buried the frozen food in a snow drift next to the houses). Lived that way for 2 weeks, except for trips to the neighbors to see how they were doing, completely isolated.

14. Glad you are back, I was out for 4 days
just like the July storm that hit us here in St. Louis. Just finished my 3rd LTTE about Ameren's "glowing" management. Suggest you write a letter to you public service commission. There is no excuse for this many people to be without power for so long. Just more corporate greed. Oh, and check the St. Louis Post Dispatch today for Eric Mink's Op Ed. He nailed it!!!

Did you lose everything in your refrigerator? How did you keep warm? How do you keep your sanity without the internet?

19. We used a generator for the fridge and furnace.
Not enough power to push all the luxury items though. Basically did a hell of a lot of reading this past week. :)

23. Ice storms are nasty
We had on in the mid 70's (SE Wisconsin). Knocked out power for 8 or 9 days. We were lucky, went to the Grandparent's house for a week. Puts an interesting perspective on paying the utility bill.

Welcome back.
