I bought my son a Playstation 3 for this Christmas.
I know. I know. Crash commercialism, blah, blah, blah.

It's what he asked for and I try to get them what they ask for.

8. I know. I tried to tell him that, but he really wanted one.
I told him there was no way I was going to wait in line at 3AM to get one and he really needed to think of something else.

He's going to be shocked Christmas morning.

19. I'm pretty computer literate, but I can't for the life of me get the
whole 'gaming' thing. My kids have GameBoys and I can't even see the friggin' screen, let alone play with it.

My son loves video games. Fortunately, he's pretty active as well, or I think there'd be trouble.

25. Well look at it this way
You now have a Blue Ray player in the house. You are way ahead of the curve compared to most people.

Blue Ray
Is the newest DVD format. Its a much higher density that a standard DVD. That means more resolution and more content (a lot more) can be crammed on the disc. Technically speaking the $500+ you spent on the PS3 makes it an exceedingly inexpensive Blue Ray player. They are still it the stratospheric price ranger. This is a large part of why Sony is losing about $200 per unit sold.

36. So, this unit will play DVD? Like his PS2 does? Or is this the format
the games are in/on?

TIA. I appreciate your help.

38. All of the above
It will play regular DVDs.

It will play Blu-Ray DVDs (which are for HD TVs).

And the games come on the Blu-Ray DVDs which means they can hold MUCH more data than the XBox 360s games.

Unfortunately (for me, anyway), you really need an HD TV to get much use out of the Blu-Ray discs currently.

But maybe you have an HDTV? And maybe I'll have one after Christmas!

39. One of the marketting angles of the PS3
Is that it is much more than just a gaming console. It is a full part of an entertainment system. It is probably the best DVD player you have in your house now. It can play Blu-Ray discs which you will start hearing more and more in adverts about. It is definately more than just a toy.

7. Zero. Got it from a friend who knew I had been *thinking* about
getting him one and she happened to be at Target when a shipment came in.

How's that for lucky?

He's gonna be thrilled. He really got into video games when he was in a cast this summer for six weeks and again this fall for six weeks. No sports, no swimming, so there wasn't much else for him to do.

Although, I have to say, his golf swing has improved immensely with all that walking on crutches. His upper body strength has doubled.

12. I'm telling ya. She is the world's greatest shopper.
Scours the ads. Never, ever pays full price for anything. She shops all year round for Christmas.

She got BabyMidlo a Fur Real Kitty a few years back when they were going for $350 and up on EBay.

Ah, the things we do for our children. :eyes:

That's how I got a Fur Real kitten for my little one a couple of years back as well. I have a friend who shops All. The.Time. She is, without a doubt, the greatest shopper in America. Never pays full price for anything. It's almost a full time job.

If your son wanted it, and you didn't have to camp out and/or break any laws to get it- that seems like a no-brainer to me.

I can think of many, many things I'd personally rather have for the money but until you notify me that you'll be buying me a present, I'll just say, "Well done!!!"

stuff for me. I'll tell you, that twelve weeks when he was on crutches and in a cast were murder for me. He's been my *muscle* for so long, I totally forgot how much work he does around here.

If he has to go back on crutches, I think I'll shoot myself.

37. Well, it was worth a shot.
My mom asked me to camp out overnight, for free, in the cold to get a Wii for gaybro. Then, she even tried to play it off that it'd really be a gift for me, too.

So basically, to sum it up, she wanted me to freeze my ass off, in front of Best Buy, in the vain hope of getting a Wii for a stepbrother, who I don't even like most of the time, in the hopes that one day, he'll let me play with it. Some gift that would be for me...

God, I think I just wrote my longest run-on sentence ever there.

As it is now, he plays for a bit, then goes outside and shoots hoops, etc.
