What is the best anti spyware software?
Is there any that is freeware?

Also, is there an easy way to stop spyware from loading without your knowledge and without installing some kind of anti-spyware software?

5. Spybot S&D is good.
It's what I use.

Although I have had no spyware problems since I stopped using Internet Explorer as my web browser...

6. Also, it lets you immunize your machine against known problem software
which is kinda like what SITB was asking for in the original post.
