A cure for messy restrooms in mall stores.
Do like Herrod's in London. Charge for use or use store credit card for admission. This would help immensely with this problem.

I am not entirely serious here since stores might actually start doing this!

Better custodial staff.

Those custodians in malls mostly suck.
And why is the cabinets by the sinks always wet? It's like someone spew water everywhere.

3. Water, yeah, if you are lucky
The mall near my home has several groups of restrooms and the one closest to the Food COurt is so nasty I feel dirty just walking in front of it.

Yet, somehow, the rest of them are kept very clean. Weird.

17. There's probably more traffic in the ones nearest the food court.

4. I have found that the general mall restrooms...
are often unpleasant, messy, and smelly.

The restrooms within the department stores, however, are usually much cleaner, larger, and well-kept.

I have to say that the family restrooms at the Crossroads Mall in St. Cloud, MN have been very clean and pleasant each time I have been there. Good for them!

5. With some stores, that's really true.
The von Maur store in North Park Mall in Davenport (IA) has those nice stalls with high wooden doors. Almost like you are inside a closet. And is well kept. I suppose the more upscale, the neater.

6. You would only be paying to use the messy bathroom.
Instead of using it for free.

7. Start in kindergarten teaching people how not be fucking pigs
because clearly, a hell of a lot of parents aren't teaching their children.

I see it mostly at the level of ... ah, never mind. It'll just get the post deleted.

Let me just say that the chances of a WalMart bathroom being an ugly shithole versus the chances of a Macy's, or even a Target's, bathroom being dirty are way, way, way, way, way higher.

8. Seriously
I don't think the root of the problem is the custodial staff-- it's usually people just shitting where they want or pissing where they want and not giving a fuck.

10. Damn right. There's no reason that 100 people can't use a bathroom,
and still have it look pretty close to as it did after it was cleaned.

IF those 100 people are human beings, and not standard American gutter dwellers.

13. Exactly.
I've seen some pretty fucked up shit in the bathrooms...most people don't even wash their hands :puke:

I grew a culture of staph from the handle I swabbed in one of my college's women's room.

We're not animals and there's no reason to leave the place a mess.

12. But on the other hand, blaming it on janitors takes responsibility away from me.
I can just say "No, it's not the fact that I smeared shit on the wall, didn't pick up my towels, sprayed water all over, and let the soap drip all over the counter top. It's the fucking janitor's fault for not cleaning up after me immediately!"

See, even liberals can play the republican game.

15. We are a culture of entitlement
I work on one of the campus dining halls, and I could go on for hours on how people act like total pigs because they know someone is there to clean up after themselves.

16. Sonofabitcyh, but ain't that the truth?
Culture of entitlement.

And it's so sad to see liberals buying into that shit. I've seen a fair share of it here on DU.

"I don't need to put my shopping cart away, I'm tired"
"I paid for the property, I can do whatever I want on it"
"I bought them an expensive wedding gift and they didn't even have an open bar!"

And so on.

9. I thought 'Herrod's' require the sacrifice of a firstborn...
...male child to use their restrooms. Harrods, on the other hand, charges a pound.

Yours in pedantry,

Kutjara.

11. No, you're thinking of "Herod's", with one "r". I'm not sure what "Herrod's" is.
Perhaps it's some kind of fish monger?

14. Maybe so, but then...
...the place would be smelly enough already. Who'd notice the reek from the restrooms?

18. If people would clean up after themselves
the restrooms wouldn't be complete cesspools. There's no reason for people to have body waste outside the commodes, water and soap all over the sinks/counters, and paper towels all over the floors. Grow up and show some responsibility!

19. Another bothersome factor is that it is hazardous
to walk into the average restroom without knowing some slobs have gotten hand soap
on the floor. It is extremely slippery and I almost took a tumble a few weeks ago. It was in a mall restaurant.
