1. Our song has some rather obscure lyrics
For instance, it mentions the Dardanelles...

"Bow Down to Washington"

Bow down to Washington,
Bow down to Washington,
Mighty are the men
Who wear the purple and the gold,
Joyfully we welcome them
Within the victors fold.
We will carve their names
In the Hall of Fame
To preserve the memory of our devotion.
So heaven help the foes of Washington;
They're trembling at the feet
Of mighty Washington,
Our boys are there with bells,
Their fighting blood excels,
It's harder to push them over the line
Than pass the Dardanelles.
So victory's the cry of Washington...
Our leather lungs together
With a Rah! Rah! Rah!
And o'er the land
The loyal band
Will sing the glory
Of Washington forever.

4. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!
California
"Fight for California"

Our sturdy Golden Bear is watching from the sky
Looks down upon our colors fair
And guards us from his lair
Our banner Gold and Blue
The symbol on it too
Means Fight! for California
For California through and through.
Stalwart girded for the fray
Will strive for victory
Their all at Mater's feet will lay
That brain and brawn will win the day.
Our mighty sons and true
Will strive for us anew
And Fight! for California
For California through and through.

2. Boomer Sooner

Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner,
Boomer Sooner, O-K-U!

Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, O-K-U!

I'm a Sooner born
And a Sooner bred,
And when I die
I'll be Sooner dead.

Rah, Oklahoma! Rah, Oklahoma!
Rah, Oklahoma! O-K-U!

We march down the field with our heads held high
Determined to win every battle we're in
We'll fight with all our might for the red and white
March on march on down the field for the victory is nigh
You know we came to win this game for Oklahoma
And we will or know the reason why!

---

Our chant rolls on and on!
Thousands strong
Join heart and song
In alma mater's praise
Of campus beautiful by day and night
Of colors proudly gleaming Red and White
'Neath a western sky
OU's chant will never die.
Live on University!

5. University of Oregon:
Mighty Oregon

Oregon, our Alma Mater,
We will guard thee on and on,
Let us gather 'round and cheer her,
Chant her glory, Oregon!
Roar the praises of her warriors,
Sing the story, Oregon,
On to victory urge the heroes
Of our Mighty Oregon!

Go! Ducks! Go!
Fight! Ducks! Fight!
Go!
Fight!
Win! Ducks! Win!

The song was first performed on March 4, 1916 (Register Guard, 11-13-81). Over the years there have been some changes to the lyrics to be more politically correct.

Original Lyrics
The original words to "Mighty Oregon" were as follows:

She is small our Alma Mater
But she rules with strength and right,
What she lacks in mass and numbers
She makes up for in her fight
Oregon is never beaten
'Till the final whistles call.
Who can tell her tale of triumph?
Scores can never show it all.

Oregon, our Alma Mater
We will guard thee on and on
Fellows gather round and cheer her
Chant her glory Oregon
Roar the praises of her warriors
Sing the story Oregon
Down the gridiron urge the heroes
Of our mighty Oregon.

Rally fellows, stand behind them,
They are doing all they can.
Back the team in sun and shadow,
Back the captain, back each man.
They will carry home the vict'ry
To old Deady's hallowed hall.
Give the team the best that's in you.
Give your Alma Mater all.

Hit that line, Hit that line, Keep on going,
Move that ball right down the field.
Give a cheer, Rah! Rah!
Never fear, Rah Rah
Arkansas will never yield.
On your toes Razorbacks to the finish.
Carry on with all your might.
For it's A-R-K-A-N-S-A-S for Arkansas,
Fight, Fight, Fi-i-ight.
Go Hogs Go!

7. I was rooting for Arkansas; I was bummed when they lost.
My dad was from Arkansas (he never went to college though), and a professor friend of mine left Seattle University and went to teach at UA years ago.

8. I'll probably get killed for this but here goes!!!
Rally sons of Notre Dame:
Sing her glory and sound her fame,
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in ev-ry game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame

Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky.
What though the odds be great or small
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory.

9. Hail to Pitt, Hail to Pitt, every loyal son
Hail to Pitt, Hail to Pitt
'til the victory is won!
The gold and blue shall wave forever,
on high, through fair and stormy weather
We'll sing our praises far and wide
Until the end of time!
Hoop hooray, hoop hooray, for dear old UNI
We'll give it a grand old
ALLEGHENEE-GENAC-GENAC-GENAC
We'll wave and cheer for many a year
and sing our songs out loud and clear
for our University!

10. The University of Texas: The Eyes of Texas
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 01:18 AM by Writer
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live-long day.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them,
At night or early in the morn.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
Till Gabriel blows his horn.

It also works as a stalker's ballad.

On edit: Here's the longer version, which is not so stalker-ish.

I once did know a President,
Away down South, in Texas.
And, always, everywhere he went,
He saw the eyes of Texas.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live long day.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
You can not get away.
Do not think you can escape them
At night or early in the morn-
The Eyes of Texas are upon you
'Till Gabriel blows his horn.

Sing me a song of Prexy,
Of days long since gone by.
Again I seem to great him
And hear his kind reply.
Smiles of gracious welcome
Before my memory rise,
Again I hear him say to me,
"Remember Texas' Eyes."

Actually, on second read, it's really quite creepy. But Hook 'em, Horns! :headbang:

13. You should see what Dan Jenkins did to that
in "Semi-Tough." Oh, lawd — if I had it in front of me, I'd transcribe it.

I think the first two lines were something like "The eyes of Texas were upon it / All the lifelong thing." And the last line was "Till Garland comes back yet."

14. If you ever find it, I'd love to read it!
Other than the creepy fight song, I learned to thrash and yell, "Give 'em hell, give 'em hell! Make 'em eat shit!" :headbang:

11. University of Alabama
"Yea, Alabama!"

Yea, Alabama! Drown 'em Tide!
Every 'Bama man's behind you;
Hit your stride!
Go teach the Bulldogs to behave,
Send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave!
And if a man starts to weaken,
That's a shame!
For 'Bama's pluck and grit
Have writ her name in crimson flame!
Fight on, fight on, fight on, men!
Remember the Rose Bowl we'll win then!
Go, roll to victory,
Hit your stride,
You're Dixie's football pride, Crimson Tide!

12. The first one is the most used fight song.

Ohio State
"Across the Field"

Fight the team across the field
Show them Ohio's here,
Set the earth reverberating
With a mighty cheer,
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Hit them hard and see how they fall,
Never let that team get the ball,
Hail, hail, the gang's all here,
So let's win that old conference now.

"Buckeye Battle Cry"

In old Ohio there's a team
That's known throughout the land
Eleven warriors brave and bold,
Whose fame will ever stand.
And when the ball goes over,
Our cheers will reach the sky,
Ohio Field will hear again
The Buckeye Battle Cry!

Drive, Drive on down the field,
Men of the scarlet and gray;
Don't let them through that line,
We've got to win this game today,
COME ON OHIO!
Smash through to victory,
We cheer you as you go!
Our honor defend we will fight to the end
for OHIO!
