surprise! i'm outraged
Like, steam coming out of my ears. x(

we got a new hire today - basicaLLy someone who worked on our joint-venture (pubLic construction contract) at our other boston office (she was empLoyed by the other company). weLL, she got Laid off and they decided to hire her... despite the fact that we're pretty Light on the work right now.

i went through the same process about 14 months ago - Laid off from the joint venture, but immediateLy offered a job by my current empLoyer (they Leased me out in the j/v so i was never actuaLLy an 'empLoyee' of this company; i just worked here), so i know the driLL.

anyhow, when i was offered the job, i was toLd by the bossman (actuaLLy #2 guy for this branch) that at a minimum, i'd make the same rate, but most LikeLy get a raise. i didn't find out untiL my first paycheck, that i actuaLLy took a fairLy substantiaL paycut - the boss (#1 guy) caLLed me into his office to give me my first check and inform before i opened it that, "oh, by the way you're taking a paycut and i just figured i'd drop it on you"
i was upset, but i was happy to have a job, and i aLready couLd see myseLf going pLaces in my first two weeks in the private sector.
i agreed to the pay on one condition: that i have room for upward mobiLity, and most importantLy, Learn aLL the aspects of the business.

i was technicaLLy hired as a cad operator (which is fine - i'm not one for titLes, usuaLLy) but aLmost immediateLy i was a project manager. i Loved it too. i work great under pressure, and my knowLedge of the business increased dramaticaLLy. i'm even abLe to withstand the aLmost constant putdowns by boss #1 - he's got a napoLeon compLex.

anyhow, back to today. she shows up, and i find out she's our newest project manager. she's never been a project manager, and i am gonna have to train her. fuck that!
i've been acting Like a p/m for the majority of my time here, not paid for it, and usuaLLy not getting recognition for it.
they aLso set her up with a nice LittLe workspace ensembLe (when i came here they just pointed at a very messy corner of the room) that incLudes sheLves. i've been asking for sheLves for aLmost a year as aLL of my jobs are arranged in piLes aLL around my desk.

so yeah i'm pissed. now some of my other resentments are bubbLing to the surface: Like having boss #1 not acknowLedge the fact that i'm not onLy a coLLege graduate, but a hoLder of a civiL & environmentaL engineering degree; the fact that another girL they hired prior to me, is about the dumbest person i've ever known - i swear she needs heLp breathing - and she gets paid more than me, and spends 7-8 hours a day pLaying onLine; the sLipshod way this company is run - i'm shocked they haven't coLLapsed under the weight of fooLish decisions and hires.

oh, and the new hire, Like the dumb girL i mentioned is sLovakian, and i'm sitting between the two of them.. aLL morning they've been taLking LoudLy over my head in their native tongue - they sound Like chickens.

aaarrrggghhh!!!
i think it's time to Look for a new job.

1. It's definitely time
to either put your credentials in front of your boss and get some reasonable improvements, or put your credentials in front of other people and get some offers.

8. I'm betting they know how you feel about moving on
and they're taking advantage of that.

I know that was the case here where I work.

There are other companies out there, and a lot of places are looking for PMs/engineers.

Why not send out a few resumes and see where you get?

13. Yeah I think that's a pretty good indication,
that you need a new job. It really sucks when a company refuses to recognize one's work like that. I'm lucky to have found a decent employer.

superior, although I have no advice. I do have a question, though. Why are your Ls all capitalized?

16. One of my guiltiest pleasures is watching
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 02:05 PM by jmm
a company collapse under the weight of its bad decisions after I've left. I took the first promotion I was offered at my last job but turned down the rest I was offered there because they refused to meet my demand that they hire better staff. I already had enough morans under me the last thing I needed to do was explain to more people why they shouldn't water fake plants. Soon after I left they got slammed with a few lawsuits. I still deal with idiots now but atleast they're just clients and not my coworkers.

From the sound of it, you've been taken advantage of for quite some time.
