:bounce: :toast: Usually, holidays at Mom's house end up with people getting pissed off at each other for no reason and then acting like nothing happened. Well, yesterday was a pleasant exception. Mom was a little stressed (read: stressed out of her mind!) before lunch when I was in the kitchen helping her (and, of course, doing it ALL WRONG :P), but when everything was in the oven and we had to let things cook, we sat down in the kitchen. Mom looked at me like she suddenly realized I was there, and she actually smiled and said, "You know, you look great! This is the nicest you've looked in a long time." You have to understand---Mom usually tells me what's wrong with my appearance and has a laundry list of "things you need to do to make yourself presentable." What might have been a backhanded compliment from someone else was actually a big compliment coming from my loving but critical mother. I never pay attention to the "laundry list", but she ordinarily feels the urge to bring it up. This time, no. :)
We had a very pleasant meal and a really nice time afterward. My sister and her family were there, as were my brother, Mom's husband, my husband, and a family friend. Once we got past the initial stress of preparing the meal, it turned out to be one of the nicest Thanskgiving dinners we've ever had. :D
I hope your day was as good as mine! :hi:
