Wilson of "Home Improvement" passes away
"Actor Earl Hindman, best known for playing a neighbor whose face was forever obscured by a fence on the television show Home Improvement, died of lung cancer Monday in Stamford, Conn. He was 61.

As Wilson, the neighbor of Tim Allen's character on the long-running sitcom, Hindman dispensed folksy advice from behind a white picket fence, with only his eyes and forehead visible to audiences. Before appearing on the show, he played Detective Lt. Bob Reid for 16 years on the daytime drama Ryan's Hope."

1. He was a standout character actor on "Ryan's Hope". He will be missed.

5. in central illinois
and maybe other places.
we refused to shop there when management refused to allow grade schoolers to bag up sawdust for school art projects (from their trash bins out back) without paying a 'fair price to menard's.'

7. Is it a home improvement type place?
I am assuming so from the fact that they apparently have trash bins of sawdust.

6. Wow! That's A Shame
I know that it's probably a guilty pleasure here at The Lounge that i really liked Home Improvement, but i did. (There, i admitted it!)

That's a shame that a guy who added so much wit and wisdom to that show died so young.

11. Wasn't Larz, Phyllis's husband on Mary Tyler Moore
Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 12:02 PM by Norbert
the same way. I don't recall ever seeing him on the show and he was killed off when Phyllis was spun-off.

And then there is Larry, Daryl and the other brother Daryl on Newhart. The two Daryls never spoke a word until the end of the last episode (one word).

BTW I did see one episode of Dick Van Dyke that showed Pickles a few months back. I've never seen that episode before and it blew me away that she was on it.

14. I forgot about Phyllis the Daryls were of the "weird neighbor" lot
but then all of Newhart's shows have basically been about how weird the seemingly mundane world around him is/was and he gets to play off of that. Same with the Andy Griffith show.

REally Pickles was actually on an episode? I never knew.
