does anybody else ever feel screwed over by western civilization?
Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 05:53 AM by moz4prez

you can tell me.

it's a tyranny of the beautiful! how do we adapt? we don't! we just whittle away our lives in horrible solitude! Sexual liberalism has only brought us grief!

1. Sexual liberalism hasn't a damned thing...
... to do with it. What you complain about is all about politics. Don't like the assholes in charge? Get out and do something about the assholes in charge....

Cheers.

2. it has everythng to do with it!
In a more conservative sexual system, the individual more likely than not finds a suitable mate, with whom to spend HIS STOOPID LIFE. In a liberal sexual system, the ugly are virtually pauperized, condemned to a life of loneliness and masturbation, while the beautiful climb their way to the top. It is not unlike the scene in front of a supermarket, where the transients and quiet paperboys wait outside, very patiently, waiting for the remotest opportunity to scramble inside to avail themselves to nature's paltry bounty!!!!!!!!

Admittedly, sometimes the charming and/or the pitiable find themselves a good lay :)

I vote Democratic because Republicans have no social conscience. I vote Libertarian because I wish I was dead

3. Well, to each his own...
... even if it marginalizes and trivializes the real issues....

8. No regulation in the world will give you an affective relationship.
Only blind, random, dumb chance will. Always was that way, always will be.

5. Ah. You're bothered by women's rights.
Happier with the purdah and the burkha and the harem, eh? And let's not forget those toothsome virgins who won't know enough to compare quality and quantity.

Behind the veil, no one knows what a woman looks like. And arranged marriages...no dating problems there.

Go east, and be happy.

6. I admit I am alienated by secularism
Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 07:36 AM by moz4prez
I think it undermines the social fabric insofar as it weakens the family unit. Without God there is no universally applicable moral standard! I could do anything I wanted to do, and so long as, abiding by my own perfect perception, it is acceptable, then it is acceptable.

I am not threatened by women's rights. I don't think morality is something to be jettisoned on the path to progress, to lighten the load. It doesn't matter if it is, ultimately, a fabrication and a fraud.

Maybe I should go east. I'm obviously not welcome here.

7. Darn it...mom was right...
She always said "If you sleep with guys, the country will fall apart, the dollar will fall to an all time low, and we'll go to war with everyone! You'll have no will to do good without God in your life!"

I knew it was all my fault.

All kidding aside, the church made me feel unwelcome a number of years ago. I didn't loose my morality. If you have intelligence and compassion, you can make moral decisions on your own without a guide book that a group of ancient superstitious people wrote.

And there is no need to move east. Everyone is welcome here as long as you dont require them to live the same way you do.

10. The Good and The bad (I'm not making this stuff up)
I just take the good with the bad. Change the bad things I can and defend the good things.

My biggest peeves with Western Civilization:
Shrink Wrap (invented by Plato): Made only to annoy and piss off fumble-fingers like me.

Telemarketers(invented by Tennyson or Byron- I never can remember which): Bless the individuals for keeping a paycheck, but a pox on the corporate owners (whose phone numbers I would *love* to have).

CD's (invented by Benjamin Franklin): Dammit! The LP was good enough for me and I'll be damned if I spend thousands of dollars replacing my album collection! (And add in the concurrent loss of cover art on CD's and you've got a civilization in decline)

Trendy Fashion(invented by Nietzche *and* Freud in an attempt to overthrow the status quo): I gave up trying to maintain a fashionable wardrobe twenty years ago when the trends began changing every 4 months. I'm just not wealthy or vain enough.

Things I like about Western Civilization: (I'd like to add that all of the following were invented by me in 1982 when I was sixteen on a day I was sitting in detention for shooting spitwads, which I also invented...)

The advent of the Community Public Library

Monty Python's Flying Circus and all of the Hope & Crosby Road movies.

Microwave lasagna

The Personal Jet Pack: You may have seen examples on The Jetson's. Damnable auto industry thought it would eat into their profits and swayed public opinion into believing I was just a crack pot who makes things up while typing on the internet so no one would buy them (as an aside, I *didn't* invent the internet- it was my best friend in high school, Todd "Stinky" Jackewski who did).
