Fun Electoral College Facts!
The five least populous states in the country (South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, Vermont, and Wyoming) have a combined population of 3,126,585 (2000 Census), approximately 1.11% of the total US population in 2000.

Combined, these states have a total electoral vote of 15, approximately 2.79% of the total Electoral vote. Each Electoral vote for these five states represents an average of 208,439 citizens.

The five most populous states in the country (Illinois, Florida, New York, Texas, and California) have a combined population of 102,101,596 (2000 Census), approximately 36.28% of the total US population in 2000.

Combined, these states have a total electoral vote of 168, approximately 31.23% of the total Electoral vote. Each Electoral vote for these five states represents an average of 607,748 citizens.

In the 2000 election, Al Gore received 51,003,238 votes and 267 Electoral votes. Each Electoral vote represented roughly 191,023 voters.

In the same election, George W. Bush received 50,459,624 votes and 271 Electoral votes. Each Electoral vote represented roughly 186,198 voters.
