I just want to say thank you.

As I closed in on 300 posts, I was trying to think of something witty to post for that next "milestone." Then I saw Catshrink's post, and I was very moved by the way you all filled the post with care and concern.

I started out lurking at DU, because it was a good place to get information. I joined so I could vote in polls. Next thing ya know, I was posting at GD. That got scary, and I noticed how much cozier it was over here (though I still jump in the frying pan when I feel daring!).

As I read and responded, I started to see how much genuine affection people here have for each other, and it reminded me of another place I used to go. It's been out of commission a while, and I was missing that sense of caring and community online.

So, I just wanted to thank you all for letting me in a little bit, so far... for displaying your caring here for anyone to see... for lifting each other up and for making each other laugh.

I have a lot of respect for this community, and yet I barely know you.

Congrats on the 300 milestone! And thanks for saying that someone relatively new still sees the wonderful community that DU is. The candidate wars are just insane. DU is better than that.

5. It really is a community.

Sometimes I view it a a big old dysfunctional FAMILY, but it really IS a pretty tight knit group when you get past the occasional skirmish.

I love the way ya'll leave the mud at the door!LOL! and I look forward to seeing the energy gather around the eventual nominee. I look forward to a fight next year, and I'm glad I found a place to call home base for it!
