This was MY night. How was yours?
http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=1384104

This is a VERY small neighborhood with no through street. The child involved is a classmate of my son's.

I suffer from ptsd and am always griping at hubby about leaving doors unlocked and stuff. It used to seem kind of silly in this neighborhood because it was always so quiet. Doesn't seem silly anymore.

4. I slept through the crappy part.
What was disconcerting was seeing the news video obviously filmed FROM MY DRIVEWAY.

For some reason that really freaked me out.

Think his parents will take his brand new Accord away?

8. His Accord?
Take away his right to anything other than the necessities. Food, water, bathroom privileges...that's it. Empty his room leaving only a mattress and maybe a good stack of classic literature to keep him company. That might give him something to think about the next time his folks leave home and he wants to party.

6. More to it.
I would be willing to bet there is more to the story than meets the eye. Sounds exactly like a scene from that movie "weird science"- maybe it could happen, or somebody accidently busted a few caps into the cieling and decided to make up a story. Three guys trying to do a "takeover" robbery on 50 people? 50 teenagers that are full of bravado and think they will never die? At a household that has a better than even chance of having firearms? Nobody was shot, why did they discharge a weapon? I smell a teenage cover-up attempt.
Give it some time, the truth will surface.

7. They were looking for somebody
who apparently wasn't at the party. It was drug related.

I'm sure we're only getting pieces of this story but it isn't the first time this boy has been in major trouble.

Out here in PA, theres jack to do. So the prep schools are INFESTED with cocaine. Kids driving around in thier daddy's beamer with too much money and nothing to do.

Unfortunately, in many cases, these kids don't realize what they are getting themselves into.

Edit: "expensive houses" and "expansive front lawns", damn - Admiring you :)

12. Lots of drugs and even more booze.
When this high school and the Christian prep around the corner have a football game they dub it the "cell phone bowl".

These kids aren't driving daddy's Beamer - they have their own.

"Expensive" and "expansive" does pretty much describe my life, thanks! It's also starting to describe my ass but that's another thread!

My house would probably be a good place for a DU party.

9. Bravado?
99,999 people out of 100,000 will run like startled rabbits at the sound of gunfire. Doesn't matter how old they are. Gunshots in an enclosed, full room must have sounded like God stomping on the ceiling.

11. One of the neighbor's kids who was there
ran and hid in a closet. The house is multi-levelled so there was a lot of that.

The police got 20-something 911 calls all from cell phones which routed first to Nashville (Metro Davidson County) or to the Williamson County Sheriff. The ones who were on the lawn when this went down just jumped in their cars and left but it caused quite a back up in front of my house - there's only one road out!

I don't know how many will run from gunfire here. You get kinda used to hearing it but it's all long guns. There's a farm on the other side of the hill from our development that has a deer lease. Where I lived in CA before I moved here I got so used to gunshots it would barely wake me up anymore. We'd all get up in the morning, go out to the parking lot, and sweep up the shells.

Obviously I'm living much better now!

14. I would think that more likely, really.
It's a SMALL neighborhood - 12 or so occupied houses and another 3 for sale with only one egress. Not the greatest place to stage a home invasion, I would think, from a get away perspective.

The thing I am wondering is there is no real description yet I would think these kids know every drug dealer in Williamson County and these guys obviously knew where/how to find THIS kid's house.

I'm just kinda hoping they don't come back.

20. I start teaching in a community like that in two weeks
Money to burn, of course they don't pay their teachers very well.

I'm a bit nervous about it all, but I'll survive.

he'll roll over on his back and want his tummy rubbed.

Of course the kids are probably all allergic. All little angels who do nothing wrong. I will be just fine ....
