Putting out a feeler

Not that kind of 'feeler', sheeesh...I'm behaving today.

What I'm wondering...I suspect that a lot of us bake over the holidays. I know I do. Cookies like there's no tomorrow. Would anyone be interested in doing a cookie swap? There are a couple of ways we could do it, if anyone's interested. We could:

Easiest:
Start a cookie-swap thread...post your favorite recipe and use one that's already posted. Could be fun -- more anonymous but also less personal.

More work = more fun:
Sign up to play in a thread. There would have to be a closing date for participating, but there could be some flexibility. Everyone who plays, bakes their favorite recipe and prints it out. A dozen cookies and a copy of the recipe to each person and ship 'em. We could try and all send them out on (or about) the same date so that we'll all get them at the same time (heee...it'd drive the post office absolutely crazy, wouldn't it?).

Personally, I like the second one. Lots more fun, especially when they arrive. And think of all the new cookie recipes and you'll get to try each one rather than just read it.

how many dozens of cookies must one bake?

8. Depends on how many people sign up.

You've gotta figure that usually a batch makes anywhere between 3-6 dozen. So if 6 people participate, it would just be maybe 1 1/2 batches (because it almost NEVER makes as many as the recipe says it should). I know that I never, ever make less than a double batch of Anything...and at Christmas, I'm doing double batches x 2. The part I like best is seeing what everyone else's favorite is and trying them.

At the rate we're going...it looks like it'll just be a few of us, though. Which is fine, too.

It just sounds like something that might be fun.

11. I use my oven to store dry cat food

and the only baking in my house is when the S.O. burns Nestle cookie dough in the toaster oven, so I'll let others make the choice.

and get a cookie sheet and a recipe! You'll get as many as you send. It's fun!
