Poll question: Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Or are you neither? Or do you love all animals? I'm a dog person. :) I love all animals, but my personality is best suited for dogs. Fortunately, my husband is also a dog person. I do not dislike animals of any kind, but if we have pets (which we do), they'll be dogs.

You?

8. I love all animals...
but, I'm a cat person.

I've always had cats, for one thing, so I understand them pretty well. I understand most dogs in theory, but I don't have much experience with them.

And, seeing as one bit me as I was trying to get into my car in a parking lot last night...I'm not thrilled with them in general today.

I just don't want to own another pooch. They're nice to visit with, play with, then leave with their owners. Like grandchildren, I guess. I know a dog lover who doesn't like cats because "they have too much personality."

21. Cat person
But I like both and I've had both...it's just that cats suit my personality better. Plus a cat doesn't have to go out to take care of his/her 'business' during a blizzard or a thunderstorm.

And there's the business with the last dog I had that ate the phone box one morning. Literally chewed the wires out of it when I let him out to take care of said 'business'. THAT wasn't the 'business' he was supposed to take care of.

:eyes:

Right now, I've got the best of both. One of my cats must've been a dog in a previous life. She doesn't twitch her tail -- she wags it. And only when she's happy. She plays fetch for hours on end and will bring you her toys when she wants to play. She snores. She runs up to the door and welcomes me when I come home from work (or wherever). I swear I've heard her try to bark.

And she's always...always...underfoot.

They are by far my favourites, and the ones I relate to best. I've always been a horse person and ridden much of my life; bought my first parrot about 15 years ago.

Since I've never had a cat, I can't really answer whether I'd prefer a dog or cat. :hi:

31. Much to my own surprise
I think I'm becoming more of a cat person.

I own a dog and have always had dogs, but boy can they be annoying :) Pills, barking, over-needy

Depends on the dog of course but while I love all animals I'm getting a little short on patience with the drudgery of having a pet in an urban neighborhood - my failing not the animals.

So when I visit friends and family with their seemingly independent minded cats I think...now there's a pet I could live with at this stage of things. :) They say people don't own cats but that the cats own the people. That sounds fine by me because then they have to shoulder the responsibility instead of me :)

38. All animals.
Currently I have dogs, but have had cats in the past, and surely will again. As to what's best suited for my personality, though, that would be along the lines of reptiles, fish, arachnids, etc. I have more of an affinity to the silent and exotic (not to mention misunderstood!) than to noise and rambunctiousness. But I can't think of any species that I'd turn down as a pet, given the right facilities.

Except for maybe ferrets. My uncle has two ferrets and they are smelly nasty critters. He doesn't keep them in cages and they have the run of his house. Whenever I visit, I refuse to remove my shoes because they bite feet! Their teeth are like little razors.

40. I live with one very affectionate cat
She insists that she be an only child. My cat also wags her tail a lot, and she's very vocal. I get an earful when I get home from work, my boyfriend gets an earful when he comes over, and she is very talky when I am on the phone.

I have the sort of life that makes it impossible to have a dog, but every time I see someone walking his or her dog, I do have to say hi. Sometimes, the human won't mind me patting the dog. One time, a dog just flopped on his side and started rolling around. Another time, a guy walking his weiner dog was surprised that his dog let me pat her because, he said, she's usually mean. I have joked that I am the dog whisperer.

My boyfriend's mom has a dog and two cats, and the dog is very affectionate. She's also a therapy dog (meaning that his mom takes the dog to nursing homes so people can interact with the animals. It's said to be very therapeutic).

I lived with cats all my life, but only for a few years did my mom and stepdad have a dog. And she was the sweetest dog that ever lived.

42. while i like all animals...especially wildlife.....
between cats and dogs i'm definitely a dog person.

dogs have personality and they're grateful to their owners. cats don't really care about their owners and they're generally ungrateful. additionally cats dig around in their own feces, kill birds and other wildlife just for the hell of it, claw the furniture and their piss really stinks. they're not allowed in my house.

that said, i absolutely love real cats....ocelots, jaguars, jaguarundis, pumas, tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards. it's the creepy little ones that run around the alley that i don't care for.

48. I like Dogs more than just about anything in the whole world.
Including people.

I prefer big dogs to little dogs, and with cats it's kind of a case-by-case basis. My roommate's cat is pretty cool - she doesn't bite or scratch and is generally affectionate and kind of funny. But with dogs, I can actually fall in love with them and be absolutely devastated by their loss.

60. Cat person.
My family have always had cats (with the exception of one dog, Michael) and I wasn't born at that point.

Having said that, our cats are far from perfect, and they have the potential to annoy me immensely (scrape scrape scrape on the door, fuck off!).

Having said that, despite their imperfections, my affinity for them always remains.

I'm not particularly focused on any dog breeds, with one exception: the Siberian husky, beautiful animal. Although the responsibility it takes to be a successful owner is daunting.
