1. I saw Bette when I was 12 at a concert staged for filming of 'The Rose'
Movie about J. Joplin. Concert was awesome as she and the band kept playing songs between 'takes' I finally saw the movie years later which was a let down after that concert. We had backstage passes and got to see Bette up close. I was a little too young to really appreciate it but looking back on it is fun. She is a powerhouse

I missed that, how did he die? I saw the Rose for Christmas in 1980 something with the Carters at Camp David. Big deal for me then.

4. Comes from a NYC Speakeasy whose Address # was 86
Edited on Sun Dec-28-03 10:31 AM by GalleryGod
When the cops would raid-they'd be tipped off-and all sorts of secret contraptions would swing into play. Saw it on "The History Channel: Tunnels and Secret Passages" Thus "86-it!" came into the vernacular. Probably highjacked by drunken patrons who toiled on Madison Avenue in the Advertising & Publicity bidness

I is my understanding that "86" means it is dead & gone. A grave is 8 feet long & 6 feet deep.

8. I've seen her 3 times back in the 70s
Twice in her "Clams on the Half-Shell Revue" with Lionel Hampton on Broadway, and once in her "Depression" tour (to plug "Songs for the New Depression"). She was fantastic – really raunchy (this was before she went to Hollywood) – and not all that far from "The Baths." She was really outrageous back then.

14. How much did they pay you?
My price would be at least $500/hr to watch that nasty boo-hog.
