DVD player problem, anyone know how to fix it?
Holy crapola!!! My DVD player quit working. It finished playing a movie and when I wnt to put anothr one in later it took a few seconds before saying no disc was in the player. I tried a few different movies all with the same result. I can't go w/o this thing for too long. Does anyone know any tricks or places to go that will be nice to me?

I don't want to suggest anything because youd most likely break it and it would be my fault, but i got a guy friend who fixed my ps2 by opening it and said he "cleaned the lens"

7. The DVD cleaner disc is exactly what you need
Put it in, let it play, repeat three or four times. Should clear it right up.

6. Remember, it's already broken
So there's no harm in opening the thing up.

Look to see if there is anything interfering with the smooth operation of the mechanism. Especially look for scraps of paper or things like that.

If you can determine where the lens is, try cleaning it with a cotton swab and alcohol.

Don't force anything. Modern consumer electronics are built with small plastic parts that will break if you get too rough.

8. First off...
A lot of dvd players are quite like little computers (well, they actually are, but that's another story). Sometimes they can lock up on you.

Have you tried unplugging the unit for a few minutes and trying again? (And no, merely turning it "off" don't count. It does have memory functions powered 24/7 from house current.) If it somehow misread a disc and fried it's little brain, often this will allow it to reset itself.

9. Replace it.
DVD players are cheap. The likely cause is you had the player on top of another piece of equipment that was radiating heat upward into it. It's not an uncommon thing for a unit to fail because of that. If the unit is separate from other electronics, it's possible the heat buildup was from bad air circulation.

10. I had the exact same problem
It turns out it was overheating. I can't keep the DVD player on the same shelf as any other electronic equipment anymore. If the unit feels warm when it has this problem (more importantly, if you remove the disk and it feels a bit warm after a few tries), try putting the box in a cooler or better ventilated area. Or turn it off for 30 minutes and try it after that.

That may not be your problem, but it sounds like the same thing that happened to me, so it's worth a shot.
