DU Men Who Wear Dress Shirts Please Advise (Buying advice)
What brand dress shirt is your favorite?

If money doesn't matter (well it does so let us keep the price to under $100/shirt)....

What dress shirt is your favorite and do you think wears longer than most?

My husband likes a certain brand, but it is pricey. However...I have noticed that it holds up under washing and doesn't look crappy. So while it is expensive as all hell...it might just be the better shirt to own.

4. I am looking around but can't find a store near me that sells them
I will check it out at Macy's and this store up the street that sells speciality men's stuff.

5. I like Van Heusen shirts
I also have some Gap 100-percent cotton shirts that are nice.

I would LOVE to have some tailored shirts due to my very long arms and scrawny neck. If the collar fits properly on an off-the-rack shirt, you see three inches of wrist below the cuff. If the sleeves fit properly, the collar looks like I go shopping with Dubya. And in either case, I have many inches of extra fabric in the body. (Which is why I leave my jacket on when I wear a dress shirt.) Unfortunately, custom shirts are a hundred bucks, easily, and I can't afford to spend that much for a dress shirt I won't wear but four or five times a year.

9. my hubby wears them all the time for work...so I need a durable
shirt that wears well and will last through at least a year or two of washing/ironing..

He has Ralph Lauren fitted shirts that he really likes but they are around $80 a piece and while once in a while I buy him one for Christmas, I hesitate to spend that much. BUT...I have noticed that some cheaper shirts I bought him are not wearing well...so I am just wondering whether to bite the bullet or find another brand to try.

7. My husband has no-iron shirts from Dillards and the Men's Wearhouse...
he also has a couple of no-iron shirts from Kohl's, at about half the cost of the others.

Guess which ones look better after washing? Yup. The Kohl's.

10. I have hard awful luck with Kohls though
I have bought kid stuff there that doesn't wear well...I have had to return at least 3 things for seams that fall apart after one washing.

But I will check out the mens stuff and see ...

12. If you're near a Nordstrom, check there too.
My sister and her husband swear by the men's no-iron dress shirts. My husband hasn't had a chance to try any himself, but I can attest to the fact they they look great on my brother-in-law.

13. Goodwill is just so so for quality
For some odd reasons, Hospice thrift stores have the real quality, and the volunteers are extremely helpful in your search. Check out the yellow pages

14. If I'm getting NICE shirts, I usually go with Paul Frederick
http://www.paulfredrick.com//catalog/pfcategory.aspx?Category=DressShirts

I really like the quality of their clothes; plus, it's all mail order so I don't have to worry about actually going to the store, waiting in line, etc., etc.

And, as you commented, I usually buy cheaper shirts, but when I have the money, I like to splurge on these because they fit better, and last sometimes up to 10x longer than cheaper dress shirts.

18. That's a great brand. Also Jos. A. Bank. Both have
great ties, great slacks and great shirts. They can be expensive and they have great sales if you watch for them. They have a full selection of sizes which comes in handy, too.

15. When I was deployed, I found a tailor in Singapore that will do up a suit...
...for me, to order and ships anywhere, for about 300 bones. So, most of my dress shirts come from him, but I will say
that I do own a few dress shirts by Kenneth Cole that are very, very nice. Robert Graham is also very nice.

16. Go for a 60/40 cotton/poly blend in an Oxford...
Holds a press a LOT longer than 100% cotton.
